Black Sails Season 4 will not be returning until 2017.

That ten-episode season, Starz announced today, will also be it's last.

“It’s a rare privilege in television to be given the kind of creative freedom we’ve enjoyed on this show over the last four years," said series co-creator and executive producer Jonathan E. Steinberg.

"While it was a difficult decision for us to make this season our last, we simply couldn’t imagine anything beyond it that would make for a better ending to the story nor a more natural handoff to Treasure Island.”

“We’d like to thank Chris, Carmi and everyone at Starz for all their faith and support, and to our astounding cast and crew for joining us on this ride.”

“Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine, along with their crew and the phenomenal cast, have delivered a spectacular take on the most legendary pirate story in literature, and this final season will bring us to the shores of Treasure Island as was always intended,” said Starz Managing Director Carmi Zlotnik.

“’Black Sails’ has been a tremendous success; from the loyal fan following and strong viewership numbers to awards recognition and the skill of our world-class production in Cape Town, we could not be more proud of this very special series.”

Starz has recently decided to switch up their programming strategy.

Their main events have always aired on Saturday nights, but with the premiere of Power Season 3, they moved to Sunday nights to compete with HBO and Showtime.

As their reward, they received an incredible surge in viewing, with increases in rating between 50-389% from the second and first season premieres of Power, respectively.

It's interesting to note that Black Sails is the first Starz original series to go beyond three seasons, the previous bar being set by Spartacus and Da Vinci's Demons.

Starz has plenty of other fresh content on its slate.

Outlander has been a great success and steady performer.

The historical time travel drama follows the life of Claire Randall, who finds herself swept through time from the 1940s to the 1740s, torn between two lives and two men.

Outlander just wrapped their successful second season and have been renewed for seasons three and four.

Survivor's Remorse, from LeBron James, follows the life of a twenty something basketball star, and has just started its third season on the network.

Ash vs. Evil Dead, a continuation of the Evil Dead franchise starring Bruce Campbell, just realeased its full trailer for Season 2 and is set to return this October for a bloody good time around Halloween.

And Brian Fuller (Hannibal) is bringing alive Neil Gaiman's masterpiece American Gods for the network.

Sure to be their next big hit, the series is currently filming, recently having released its first photos from the set.

You have plenty of time to catch up with all things sea bound before Season 4, so watch Black Sails online to ready to go when it returns in 2017.

Black Sails Quotes

Silver: Hang on, you're serious about taking the ship?
Flint: What the f**ck did you think?
Silver: I thought this was how you intended to escape.

There's no way of approaching that beach from the land. And even if it weren't for the soldiers, and even if it weren't for the guns; there's a f**king warship watching over every inch of the bay. A f**king warship that's already killed half your number. A f**king warship that will prevent any approach to that beach via the sea. There's simply no way of stealing that gold. But there might be something else you can steal. The f**king warship.
