Blue Bloods Season 7 Episode 22 Review: The Thin Blue Line

Not a care in the world.
It appeared the only person feeling that way on Blue Bloods Season 7 Episode 22 was the serial killer who went around bludgeoning the elderly to death.
Everyone else had an awful lot on their minds.
Danny and Baez started out by forcing their way in to a joint FBI/DEA sting operation to take down a Mexican drug cartel, and it turned out they did their jobs a little too well.
Not only did they help take $65 million in heroin off the street in an epic gun battle, but they took it a step farther and got creative in order to stop the cash from getting back to Mexico.
It was almost absurd watching everyone twisting themselves into knots concerning this bust, but most likely not unrealistic.
Special Agent Molina secretly gave Danny the information yet had to appear as though she was angry when he confiscated the cash from Pena.
Sid had to chew Danny out, all the while being proud of what he’d accomplished.
Before we saw Danny’s home being burned to the ground, I would have said that Erin received the most serious fallout.
So the ends justify the means, I must have missed that class in law school.

Erin’s boss was furious that she played by the rules and refused to issue Danny the warrant which would have allowed the DA’s office to look like it was part of the team that made this bust happen.
But Erin wasn’t about to be bulled by her boss into bending the rules…
I became a prosecutor to deliver justice and I'm damned good at it but if you don’t like the way I do it and you want to take me on, you go for it, but don't let the halo fool you cause I like a good fight.

Will we see that fight next season? We’ll have to wait and see.
Elsewhere, Jamie took down a serial killer all by himself because Eddie was once again no where to be found.
What the heck!
Blue Bloods Season 7 spent a good deal of time building up the budding relationship between Jamie and Eddie only to drop it like a hot rock in the end.
Personally, I feel cheated. I wish shows wouldn’t waste my time teasing relationships if they have no intention of moving them forward.
The will they/won’t they ploy is only entertaining for so long. When shows push it too far and have it go no where, I tend to feel as though I’ve been manipulated into caring for a couple that never had a future. I've stopped watching shows (JAG, The X-Files) for just this reason.
Even though Jamie and Eddie aren’t the core of this show, the Reagan family is, I hope that Blue Bloods Season 8 finally moves their relationship past this strange sense of limbo. It's really the only storyline that disappointed me all season.
Moving on, Evan Fleming had a profound effect on Mayor Poole.
Garrett: The mayor wants you to handle the announcement solo.
Sid: Poole never missed a victory lap in his life.
Garrett: Until now.
Frank: It's about me taking the weight for six dead bodies.
Sid: But we caught the guy.
Frank: Yeah, but it comes soaked in blood and the mayor wants to keep his shoes clean.
At first, I simply assumed that the Mayor’s bad attitude was because Frank had brought his concerns about the Mayor to the State’s Attorney’s office.
For the last half of the season, fans have been speculating whether Frank would either end up being fired, or retire from his role as the NYPD Police Commissioner.
But in this compelling Blue Bloods quote, things took an entirely different turn…
Frank: Mr. Mayor, I think you have lost confidence in my command and I am prepared to step down.
Mayor Poole: Frank, this morning I paid a condolence call to the family of Fleming's last victims. Visits like that are the worst part of my job, yours too. I've done more than I can count, you probably ten times more than that.
Frank: I find no use in looking at that score board.
Mayor Poole: But it should offer some measure of comfort, Frank, and of hope.
Frank: That's all you can do.
Mayor Poole: Oh, but I didn't have it, Frank. I just couldn't find the words.
Frank: Sometimes there aren't any.
Mayor Poole: We should offer some hope. Hell, I won two terms on that message, but I didn't have it.
Frank: It was a tough week.
Mayor Poole: And this guy, this Evan Fleming. How many more of those are just walking around out there, waiting?
Frank: I don't know.
Mayor Poole: You can't know. I know. Or now I know.
Frank: Change the subject or you'll lose your mind.
Mayor Poole: You know I gave 28 years and the use of both my legs to this city. Loved nearly every single minute of it.
Frank: Oh, come on, Carter. You got a bar in here? Let's have drink.
Mayor Poole: Monday morning I'm submitting my resignation to the City Council and I wanted you to be the first to know. All I ask is that you respect my decision. Please.
So Mayor Poole is stepping down while Frank remains in office. That was a twist I didn’t see coming, but perhaps I should have.
Frank and the Mayor have gotten to the point where their working relationship is more contentious than collaborative.
Something had to give and I can’t imagine the show continuing if Frank were the one to resign.
The Mayor’s final request did make me smile…
Frank: Is there anything I can say?
Mayor Poole: You can give me your word that you'll be just as hard on my successor as you were on me.
Frank: You have my word.
Back home, Danny was reeling from watching his home burn to the ground and it was difficult for him to stand aside and let Frank and others handle what had to be done next.
Calls have been made. Things are motion. Those responsible will pay for what they did, and you know better than to ask particulars.
Frank
Even though retribution occurred off screen, I have little doubt that it did occur. The NYPD can not allow one of it’s officers to be a target without taking some kind of action. And perhaps there will be more fallout next season.
Danny needed to be with his family as much as they needed him. He needed to hear that Linda and the boys didn’t blame him for doing his job.
He needed to hear that they only lost a house and that it was their family that made it a home, and they were all still there. Safe.
No matter the hardship or the loss, this family does not stand down, ever.

Unfortunately, the season must end but I hope you’ll all join me next fall with Blue Bloods Season 8.
