Jane the Virgin Season 3 Episode 19 Review: Chapter Sixty-Three

at .  Updated at .

It's been a while since we've seen Jane's heart glow. Unfortunately, her newfound glowing heart came at the worst moment.

The writers may have reunited Rafael and Petra on Jane the Virgin Season 3 Episode 19, but they also teased the possibility for a love triangle.

Jane, Rafael, and Petra have developed a peaceful co-parenting situation. A love triangle between the three of them would have disastrous results.

Jane Struggles With Her Relationships - Jane the Virgin

Fairytales are wonderful escapist stories. Jane is highly aware that life doesn't guarantee you a happily ever after. She thought she was going to get that with Michael, but he was taken from her too soon.

Despite changing the fairytale endings into more practical ones when she reads them to Mateo, Jane still can't help wishing she got the full-on fairytale. The theme was used brilliantly as Jane found herself between Rafael and Petra, as well as Xo and Rogelio.

Jane didn't want to get involved in Rafael and Petra's relationship, but it's hard for her to keep her opinions to herself. Petra was trying to convince herself that a relationship with Rafael would be a terrible idea, and Jane agreed.

It wasn't until watching the kids perform at school that Jane realized what was at the bottom of her reluctance to see Rafael and Petra reunite. Jane imagined them dressed like a king and queen with their daughters as princesses. And poor Jane and Mateo were left watching from the sidelines as the peasants.

Nothing about the way their kids came into the world was conventional, but it's easy to see why Jane would be worried about being left out. If Rafael and Petra work well as a couple the second time around, they would form the nuclear family.

Jane's idea of a happily ever after is feeling like her family is complete. Of course she wants a successful career and a life filled with friendships and experiences, but she can't help but feel like she's going to miss out on the idea of the family unit.

Her heart began glowing when Rafael assured her that she and Mateo were his family and that he loved her. Of course, he didn't mean "I love you" in the way Jane looked like she wished he did. Jane was able to put aside her feelings and urge Rafael and Petra to get back together.

Jane: And I get it. It's scary to have feelings again for someone. But when it comes to love, there's always a risk, and there's always a chance that you'll get hurt. But the possibility of it working out, that's so worth it!
Petra: Are you drunk?
Jane: Yes, but it's still true!

I adored drunk Jane on the phone with Rafael and Petra. She kept getting more and more emotional trying to convince Petra to give her relationship with Rafael a shot.

It's no secret that I have been waiting for Rafael and Petra to get back together. They make more sense to me as a couple than Rafael ever did with Jane. I'm not saying I don't think opposites can't attract. I think some of the best couples can come from being different.

However, Rafael and Petra understand each other in a way no one else does. They have been able to see past their faults and know there is good underneath.

And let's face it, Petra deserves to have a happy relationship for once. I know Jane is missing Michael and getting a glowing heart for Rafael now, but let Petra have her moment!

It's entirely possible the writers are hinting that Jane and Rafael will be end-game, but I think at this moment Jane is mixing her desire for a complete family with her residual feelings for Rafael. If they are meant to get back together, I would rather have it be later in the future.

Elsewhere in the episode, Jane took on the responsibility of planning Xo and Rogelio's wedding. Naturally they both wanted the complete fairy tale wedding, and Jane was not going to let her parents down.

Jane's plans to end her fling with Fabian got put on hold when she discovered he could hook her up with some white horses for the wedding. Rogelio accidently spilled the beans to Fabian about Jane wanting to break up with him, and Fabian did not handle it well.

Fabian was a delightfully dumb character to watch, but his reaction was just annoying and childish. He called Jane a slut and tried to punch Rogelio. If this is the last we see of Fabian, I'll be fine with that.

Not in the mood for a full-on bachelorette party, Jane and Xo hung out together, got super drunk, and danced with a stripper. I love the scenes that highlight the layers to their mother-daughter relationship.

I can't get the image of the stripper giving a lap dance to Xo while Jane dances unhinged in the background. It's these ridiculous moments that add just the right amount of levity to balance out the emotional scenes.

I just feel so lucky that I gave birth to my best friend.

Xo and Rogelio asking Jane to officiate their wedding was super cute. Who better to unite those two crazy kids?

Speaking of two crazy kids, Luisa and Rose were lured back to the Marbella when Rafael lied saying his cancer came back. Surprising to no one, Chuck saw "Eileen" the night Scott was murdered.

Little did they know that once they captured her, they also captured the notorious Sin Rostro. Her mask being removed was an awesome telenovela moment.

I'm really hoping this is the final straw in Luisa and Rose's relationship. They may think they have a love for the ages, but all Rose has done is murder Luisa's father, kidnap Rafael's child, and keep Luisa away from her family. Why would Luisa want to keep such a toxic, murderous person in her life?

Extra Thoughts, Questions, and Quotes

  • Jane getting chased by birds was a sight I didn't know I needed to see.
  • Why would Rose have been involved in Scott's death?
  • Should the writers put Rafael and Petra together if they only plan for Rafael to end up with Jane?
  • Rogelio and Fabian's fight was so wimpy and perfect.
  • Jane is always welcome on set, and she can bring any type of berry she wants!

    Rogelio
  • Jane: I tried to use Fabian for his horses, and now he’s taking it out on dad.
Narrator: A tale as old as time.
