Titans: Brenton Thwaites To Star As Dick Grayson

Dick Grayson is coming to live-action in the new Teen Titans series Titans on DC's untitled streaming service.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed today that Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man Tell No Tale's Brenton Thwaites has landed the big DC role of Nightwing.

Geoff Johns, DC Films co-head and executive producer of the series, praised the addition of Thwaites as the iconic Teen Titans leader in a statement.

"Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC Universe, and it wasn't easy to find him but we have. Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman's former protege and the Titans' future leader.

We're extremely lucky he's chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character."

Thwaites will join his co-stars Teagan Croft and Anna Diop who will star as Raven and Starfire on the show. Titans will also feature Garfield Logan a.k.a. Beast Boy, a young hero who can shape into any animal.

The DC drama will start production sometime this fall in Toronto, Canada. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, who produce the DCTV shows on The CW, are producing Titans as well.

Akiva Goldsman is also attached to executive produce. The first season will consist of thirteen episodes that will debut on the DC branded streaming service next year.

The service will also feature the third season of the returning animated series Young Justice.

It remains to be seen whether or not Titans will connect with the Arrowverse shows on The CW. 2018 is going to be a big year for new DC TV shows.

The CW has Black Lightning saved for midseason, starring Cress Williams. Over at Syfy, the Superman prequel series Krypton is set to premiere in 2018, starring Cameron Cuffe.

This is how Warner Bros. TV describes the upcoming Teen Titans live-action adaptation.

"Titans explores one of the most popular comic book teams ever. It follows a group of young-soon-to-be-superheroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In the action-adventure series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, that include Starfire, Raven, and others."

This is Warner Bros' second attempt at a Titans series.

Back in 2014, the studio was developing an adaptation for TNT with Goldsman. Kevin Reilly eventually passed on the project a year later.

Then in April 2017, Warner Bros announced the news of the streaming service. That was also when they revealed the resurrection of the Titans project for 2018.
