Riverdale Cast Protesting After KJ Apa Car Crash
Paul Dailly at .Riverdale star, K.J. Apa has been involved in a late-night car crash while driving home from an exhausting 16-hour day on the set of The CW drama.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the star fell asleep at the wheel while driving home from the set in Canada.
The 20-year-old plays Archie Andrews on the show was discharged from hospital without any serious injuries, but the fact that the car was severely damaged makes it clear Apa was very lucky to escape without any serious injuries.
On top of that, his co-star, Cole Sprouse was originally supposed to be in the car with him, but things changed at the last minute, and thankfully Sprouse did not enter the vehicle.
This is not okay, and it just shows how bad things could have been for all parties involved. There needs to be a procedure in place to make sure the cast and crew are safely getting home.
The cast and crew are not impressed because the show notoriously films very late and they are expected to find their own way home, and it has caused protesting on set for better conditions.
According to the report, Warner Brothers TV is keeping quiet about a meeting set to take place on Friday between the actors and executives at WB TV.
A source confirmed to THR that the actors can call a taxi or stay in a nearby hotel if they do not feel it is safe to drive, but that would also raise the question about why Apa did not ask for that service.
“They’re working these kids from morning until night,” revealed one person close to the production. “Someone’s going to die.”
Details are murky at this stage, but the story is still very much developing.
Riverdale launched earlier this year on The CW and became a hit for the network. A companion series centering on the Sabrina comics is already in the works.
What do you think about this? Should there be more safety regulations in place for shows that work long shooting days?
