TV Ratings Report: Riverdale Soars to Series Highs

at .

Riverdale returned to The CW last night with its highly anticipated second season, and it sure looks like a lot of people caught up on the show over the last few months.

Riverdale Season 2 Episode 1 raked in 2.3 million viewers and a 0.8 rating among adults 18-49. Riverdale Season 1 averaged 1 million viewers and a 0.4 rating, so the series has essentially doubled in the ratings.

That's a fantastic start on its new night, and the network will be ecstatic about giving the show time to grow. In addition, it was the slot's highest ratings since an episode of Arrow last season.

Sometimes tweaking a schedule can go horribly wrong, but depending on how Arrow holds up tonight, it looks like the network made a wise decision.

After that, Dynasty launched with 1.3 million viewers and a 0.4 rating among adults 18-49. This is not terrible by The CW's standards, but the figures could have been better.

The show does have the same lucrative Netflix deal as Riverdale, so the show could probably go pretty low and still land a renewal.

Fox: Empire (5.9 million/1.9 rating) was steady, while Star (4.6 million/1.5 rating) perked up one-tenth.

CBS: Survivor (7.9 million/1.6 rating), SEAL Team (7.9 million/1.2 rating) and Criminal Minds (5.9 million/1.1 rating) were right on par with one week earlier.

NBC: The Blacklist (5.6 million/0.9 rating) and Law & Order: SVU (5.7 million/1.2 rating) slipped, while Chicago PD (6 million/1.2 rating) was right in line with last week's results.

ABC:  The Goldbergs (5.6 million/1.4 rating), Speechless (4.3 million/1.1 rating) and Modern Family (6.2 million/1.8 rating) slipped while American Housewife (5 million/1.4 rating) and Designated Survivor (4.6 million/0.9 rating) were even.
