iZombie Round Table: A Dark and Chilling Turning Point

Rest peacefully, Mama Leone.

On iZombie Season 4 Episode 5, our lovely Renegade met her maker when Chase begrudgingly executed her to send a message.

Welcome the new world order, indeed.

Join TV Fanatics Stacy Glanzman, Lizzy Buczak, and Yana Grebenyuk as they discuss this shocking hour.

Chase went back and forth but finally gave into his peers and executed Mama Leone. React.

Stacy: That was so hard to watch! This was the first episode that I actually really felt for Chase's situation. You could tell it was not an easy decision for him. I will miss Mama Leone, and I wish she didn't have to die, but I get it was necessary for pushing the story forward.

Lizzy: Well, he's now the most hated person in New Seattle. I cringed throughout the whole scene and thought maybe he'd call it off. You could tell he really didn't want to do it, but he had to make an example out of her. She was a sacrifice for, what he thinks is, the greater good.

Yana: I don't know why, but for some reason, I found that to be the darkest part of this season and maybe even the show. It is almost like you are used to there always being a way out or something being figured out so it truly felt like Mama Leone would make it out alive. It was truly a chilling situation all around.

How do you think the brain shortage will be resolved to avoid starving zombies and attacks on humans? Do you think it can be resolved?

Stacy: I honestly don't know. They obviously need to stop making more zombies, and Fillmore Graves could cut some of their rations, but these are still only temporary solutions. They need something that will work in the long run, and I just don't know what that is.

Maybe they can offer some huge incentive to get more people to donate their brains.

Lizzy: In the short-term, Fillmore Graves needs to cut down on their own brain rations and share them with the hungry zombies before more "bus incidents" happen. In the long term, I think they'll get wind of the cure, and specifically, that Blaine has it. They'll distribute it, it'll backfire because it isn't 100% solid, and they'll turn to Ravi to quickly figure out an effective solution.

Yana: To go off what Stacy said, it seemed like they tried to gain brains off fear on iZombie Season 3 Episode 13. If fear didn't work, what will? Maybe money but we actually don't truly even know what the world is like out there now with knowledge of zombies.

What are your thoughts on Liv taking over Renegade's operation?

Stacy: I think it's going to make for some great TV. I like that this season is moving towards something very different from the previous seasons. Liv hasn't really experienced stakes as high as this before, so it will definitely be interesting to see her taking such a big risk.

Lizzy: It's brazen but expected of her. It'll likely get her in a lot of trouble, but since she knows people on the inside and has close relationships with both Major and Chase Graves, she'll be treated differently and may have a real chance at creating change.

Yana: It is a very new path for Liv but I am all for it. I think Renegade's operation stood for what Liv has always tried to achieve, especially since she became a zombie. It will be really great to follow how this goes on because it is true that the stakes are higher than ever. This is truly life or death

Will General Mills back down now that his daughter is a zombie?

Stacy: I sure hope so. Hopefully, he doesn't still want to nuke Seattle with his daughter there, but who knows. He's still a threat.

Lizzy: This could go either way. He could either withhold on nuking Seattle to protect his daughter, or he could be so disgusted that she became "one of them" and speed up the process of taking them all out.

Yana: No clue.

Do you have a favorite scene, quote, or any stray observations?

Stacy: Liv on hockey player brain was pretty funny. I liked her line about the Chiclet and all the Canada jokes.

Our dental plan is brutal. Do you know how much a new chiclet cost?

Liv

Lizzy: Don E. selling snacks at the execution as if it were a ball game. I couldn't help but chuckle because, of course, he'd turn this into a business opportunity.

Yana: I just wanted to mention how much I loved Chase this episode. Not for anything he did but for the first time it felt like his side was reflecting more and I got it. I got that this wasn't purely selfish and there really is a huge weight on him.
