Just months before The Big Bang Theory's series finale, Jim Parsons is the latest actor to open up about the decision to end the series after 12 seasons.

The Sheldon Cooper actor spoke to Entertainment Weekly about it and admits that it “just felt that it was time” to bring the show to a close.

“There is no negative reason to stop doing Big Bang. There are good reasons,” Parsons said.

“We’ve been able to do this for so many years, it doesn’t feel like there is anything left on the table."

He continued, "Not that we couldn’t keep doing it; the writers could still think of wonderful things for us to do. But it feels like we chewed all of the meat off this bone.”

While many fans called for the series to continue, Parsons worried that he was aging, adding:

“I don’t know how much longer I can wear [the T-shirts] without looking really long in the tooth.”

CBS confirmed that The Big Bang Theory Season 12 would serve as the series' swan song back in August.

In a joint statement, Warner Bros. Television, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions said, “We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons."

"We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”

The series has had a record-breaking run at CBS. When it goes off the air, it will end as the longest-running multi-camera series in television history with 279 episodes.

“The Big Bang Theory has been the defining comedy of its generation,” said Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment when the end date was announced.

“All of us at the Network take exceptional pride in this series that uniquely combines creative genius, commercial ratings success, cultural influence and characters who became so popular, they are easily known by just one name."

"We’re incredibly grateful for our partnership with Warner Bros., Chuck Lorre Productions and a brilliant cast and crew that has made such a ‘big bang’ and lasting legacy on the television landscape.”

The series remains the network's number one series, so it will be interesting to see what plans are in place for a post-The Big Bang Theory Thursday schedule on CBS.
