Freeform's mermaid themed drama has been getting better every week, and Siren Season 2 Episode 5 is no exception. 

The acting was phenomenal, the storyline was entertaining, and the characters keep on getting cooler.

Everyone has their own dangerous omen following them around, and absolutely no one is safe from any of them.

There were about a million crazy things that happened on Siren Season 2 Episode 5. The first being that we didn't mind Xander. Crazy, right?

Instead of being a spiteful guy willing to hurt his friends for the sake of revenge, he managed to reel it in a bit this time around. 

It was nice to see Xander and Ben not screaming at each other for once, and instead deciding to work together towards a common goal. 

Even though we're pretty positive Xander hasn't dropped the revenge plan, it thankfully didn't consume his entire character this episode. 

Also, are we the only ones shipping Xander and Katrina? Yes? No? Maybe? Okay. 

Meanwhile, Ryn offers to take Cami to see Donna's grave. While it may have been the honest thing to do, telling Cami that her mother was killed by a human didn't help matters much.

The mermaids still have a lot of learning to do as they assume one person's actions is a reflection on the human species as a whole.

Which when reversed, is also the same problem Xander suffers from, but hey, we're moving on. 

Cami has also come to somewhat realize the relationship between Ben, Maddie, and Ryn and believes that Ryn is now more like them than like the mermaids.

Speaking of their relationship, it looks like Ben, Maddie, and Ryn have officially decided to go all in.

They haven't actually "defined" the relationship or anything, but they did all kiss and spent the night cuddling in bed together.

It was also incredibly sweet that neither Ben nor Maddie wanted to push Ryn into doing anything with which she wasn't comfortable. But Ryn knows what she wants and she has no problem admitting that she's ready for the next step.

It was especially hilarious when Ryn let Maddie's mom know what she was ready to do. 

Ryn: I would like to make love with Ben and Maddie.
Susan: Oh. Okay.

We also have to praise Siren for its ability to create a unique romance, without letting it completely take over the series. 

Shows fall prey to this far too often, but to be fair sometimes it's hard to find that balance.

Siren does it perfectly. It touches on the central relationship each episode, but it also continues to focus on other essential aspects of the show as well. 

One of those crucial aspects is Maddie's mother and her drug addiction.

Susan did confirm that she never cheated on Dale which we had suspected after Siren Season 2 Episode 4, but she admitted to going back to Glen for more drugs. 

Susan doesn't try to make up excuses, but she also doesn't take full responsibility at first. 

Mom, you gotta stop blaming someone else for your problem.

Maddie

However, Susan genuinely seems like she wants to get better for both her husband and her daughter. We don't know the full extent of what happened in the past, but from what we can tell Susan does care for her family dearly. 

Addiction is a disease, and she needs to know that her family is there for her. 

We can't blame Maddie for being disappointed in her mother. No daughter wants their mom to bail on them or come home high. But despite all that, Maddie goes to bat for Susan. 

Not many people would sneak into a dangerous drug dealer's motel room just to find their mother's wedding ring. But Maddie Bishop is not most people, and that's what makes her such an amazing and enticing character. 

We weren't surprised that Ryn went in there to save Maddie. There's no way Ryn was chancing anything happening to her. But we did not see that neck snap coming at the end.

Ryn has killed before, but for some reason, it felt different this time.

Maybe it's because she's grown so much as a character and become a much gentler person, despite still being able to kick ass when needed. 

But to be honest, we support what Ryn did. She chose Maddie over Glen, and we would have done the same in a heartbeat. 

There's no way that this isn't going to cause some serious problems. But hopefully, when Dale gets back, he'll be able to help set things straight. 

Besides, with mermaids on the loose trying to force the other sirens to go back to the water, things are already getting out of hand. 

They can't keep doing this. They're nocturnal. I'm not.

Overall, Siren Season 2 Episode 5 was another excellent addition to the series. 

We went from squealing to stressing to being shocked all in an hour. 

But as usual, we're going to have to wait until next week to get answers to all our questions.

Wait, what are we saying? Knowing, Siren, we'll probably end up with even more questions than before.
