The Passage Season 1 Finale Review: Stay in the Light

at .

If The Passage gets renewed, it's going to be like a completely different show.

The Passage Season 1 Episode 9 concluded the Project Noah plot, while The Passage Season 1 Episode 10 showed what became of the United States of America following the virals making their big escape from the compound.

Clark Moves On - The Passage Season 1 Episode 10

Both episodes successfully raised the stakes and gave us a glimpse at just how terribly the virus affected the world.

Sykes as the teased big death was not a surprise. Sykes felt somewhat responsible for bringing a young girl into things, so it made sense that she would fight to the bitter end to right her wrongs.

While it's easy to say that dead only means dead if we see the body, there's no waw Sykes made it out of Level 4 alive. The blast could have killed people on the floor above or below it, so I do believe she's dead.

The effect that had on Clark was a profound one. They were only starting to get along again, and while their love was not as strong as it once was, there was still something there.

Shauna Saves a Life? - The Passage Season 1 Episode 9

I did not expect Clark to allow Shauna to save him. A part of me felt like he was ready to join Sykes in the afterlife before the rest of the world got obliterated as a result of the virus and military action.

Amy: What am I doing? What am I practicing for?
Brad: I need you to be prepared.
Amy: For what? What am I supposed to do?
Brad: I dunno, Amy, I don't have the answer. Okay? All I know is this is on you. You have a job to do. I don't even know what the job is. I just know that I have to teach you everything I can. I'm not going to be around as long as you are. And the world, I'm sorry, but it's a hell of a lot scarier, and I just, I just want you to be okay. Can you understand that?

Shauna's struggle with remaining on the side of good following Project Noah was warranted. For too long she was doing what others wanted her to do, and she was ready to fix herself, and move on with her life.

I thought she and Clark would have gotten together immediately after the events of that fateful final night at the facility. Clark was still in denial about his situation and was merely dropping off the worst individuals to Shauna as a meal.

In a sense, it was a good thing. It was stopping Shauna from killing innocent people, but she was also hurting. She's battled with loneliness since a young age, and that got highlighted several times throughout The Passage Season 1

Clarke Takes Aim - The Passage

Now that they've both decided to have sex with each other, it's going to present some significant consequences. When the going gets tough, they're going to argue about ruining each other's life.

I saw the future. It was bad.

Amy

Whether they'll ever be able to graduate from that, I don't know, but they are a 'ship I can get behind. They each have their flaws.

Clark will not want to give up on his mission to save lives, and that's okay.

Lila almost dying didn't hit me in the feels as much as it was probably supposed to. A part of me knew there would be a last-minute switcheroo to put her in the safe zone.

Lila Tries to Save a Life - The Passage

Even though the world is messed up, getting to spend some time with both Amy and Brad was a good thing. Lila and Brad became stuck in a rut following the death of their daughter, so it's excellent that Amy has helped heal them.

I did roll my eyes when Lila announced she wanted to join Doctors Without Borders because she seemed happy with Brad, but at the same time, it was understandable.

The U.S. was in a state of disarray with the virals on the loose. Cities were falling, and if the virals did not see her as a meal, then she would be an asset to any team.

Amy: How do I look?
Brad: Like a badass.

I didn't even notice the viral didn't look at Lila as a meal during that scene. Maybe I was caught up in the intensity of it all, but the supernatural being wanted to end Lila's life.

I don't doubt that Lila and Brad will cross paths again at some point.

Amy's Last Stand - The Passage Season 1 Episode 9

Amy turning into a vampire to save Brad's life was the gut punch I did not expect. The man and woman from the gas station were innocent and only doing what Brad did a few moments before.

They needed to secure their safety, and their deaths can only be chalked up to a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Amy saving Brad's life proved there is still a lot of good left in her despite her urges. My heart broke when Fanning revealed she was implying she was hungry for human food to make Brad think she was fine.

Brad is not going to forgive himself for letting Amy escape. The flashforward to the future confirmed that Amy was still alive in 2116 and that she looked the same age.

An Escape Plan - Tall - The Passage Season 1 Episode 5

If Brad is still supposed to be alive, then I can't wait to see where this storyline picks up. Is The Passage Season 2 set in 2116, or will it be set in multiple time periods?

There are a lot of unanswered questions, and I would love some freaking answers. The only people we know are still alive in 2116 are Amy and Fanning.

Amy is holding on to hope that Brad survived, and I'm not sure whether she's going to be in for some bad news when she walks into the new compound she arrived at during the final scene.

I loved that she was still trying to take down the virals ... even after all those years. She's a remarkable young girl, but I want to know what happens next.

The Passage has not been a heavy hitter in the ratings, but it has a loyal audience. Given the myriad of changes coming to Fox, there's no telling whether the series will be back during the 2019-20 TV season.

Seeing the Light - The Passage

I imagine there will be a lot of very annoyed fans if the series does not secure a sophomore run.

Then again, it's difficult to imagine how things are going to play out. With other countries deciding to nuke the U.S. in 2018, we could be looking at a mostly new cast alongside Sanniya Sidney and Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

There's no room for Jonas in this new narrative given that we know the virus is still raging on in a hundred years. I'm going to guess he's one of the characters who will have died when the missiles obliterated parts of the U.S.

What I do know is that Lacey best have survived and somehow still be alive in 2116 because she's one of the best characters.
