Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 10 Review: The Wages of Vengeance

at .  Updated at .

Wow! Another unexpected twist!

The series' powers that be aren't shy about killing off important characters as Farouk fell on Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 10.

That follows the death of Fabi on Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 9.

Secrets of Lexi - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 10

Maybe the safest thing to be is a recurring character who is on about every third episode.

Speaking of which: Father Chuck made his triumphant return.

Wrong Suspect - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 10

Gwen got pissed at Danny and Lexi for not keeping her in the loop. So she busted Chuck in his civvies to try to sweat Danny's location out of him.

But as somebody who is used to hearing confession rather than giving it, Chuck didn't sweat easily.

He was soon psycho-analyzing Gwen's tight-assed philosophy and got inside her head.

He even convinced her that a little breaking-and-entering was good for the soul.

I want to have Father Chuck in every episode, even though I know there's no way to do organically. But it sure would be fun.

Brotherhood Buddy - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 10

At least we finally got the Brotherhood's back story, or at least a heavily redacted version, from Alina, Fabi's protege.

Lexi returned Fabi's pendant and found out she was a Brotherhood legacy, but that the members had sworn not to recruit her.

She also found out that her mother had been resting in the Brotherhood's crypt for the past 20 years, which was a definite shock.

For a Brotherhood member, Alina was a real chatty Cathy, talking to Danny even though he didn't know the secret handshake.

She also provided more background on Farouk, including that he had a sickly niece being treated in Moldova.

Setting the Trap - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 10

Convincing the doctor to call Farouk was the only way to flush him out, but using his only living relative as bait wasn't very cool.

Maybe it was karma that kept Lexi from shooting Farouk, although he blamed Danny for having made her soft.

It was a good thing for Farouk that his lieutenant defied his orders and had a security team nearby, in case it was the obvious trap it was.

Fortunately, Farouk dropped his bag, which gave them another shot. Now if only they knew of someone who might know who on Cyprus would have sold a rare music box.

Enter Simon, another recurring character.

It seemed Simon had tired of living in the shadows and wants some legitimacy spread his way after they recover Anthony and Cleopatra.

Simon agreed to be their tour guide to the back alleys of a Cyprus port, then proceeded to set off a firefight when he knocked over a crowbar after they had sneaked up on Farouk and his men.

Farouk sent ahead his men and artifacts and made a last stand. Just as Lexi drew a bead on him, Simon shot and killed him instead.

Killing the world's most famous terrorist certainly will give Simon the notoriety he sought.

Gwen and Interpol arrived in time to recapture Anthony's sarcophagus, although Farouk's men escaped.

Walking Into a Trap - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 10

I was surprised Farouk went out this early. He was a season-finale sort of villain.

Chasing down his lieutenant, whose name few people know, won't have the same dramatic impact.

With Anthony captured and Farouk dead, no one has to worry about whatever hoodoo Farouk had planned when he was able to bring Anthony and Cleopatra together.

Cleopatra is still missing, but that doesn't have the same urgency now that Anthony will be returned to Egypt, hopefully without another hijacking.

When Danny called Gwen to catch her up on the Cyprus lead, the straightlaced agent was involved in something unusual: breaking into Fabi's apartment, as Father Chuck had recommended.

Brotherhood Boss? - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 10

He's a wise man, able to skirt certain niceties.

What do you bet that Gwen got a thrill having to go out of the ledge to elude police?

Then she turned around and recruited Danny to help her continue Fabi's off-the-books investigation.

Simon hinted that the Brotherhood might have had something to do with the death of Lexi's father.

So it was little wonder that Lexi brought a blindfolded Danny with her as backup when she returned to the crypt to get answers.

Stealthy Agent - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 10

Danny's reaction was hilarious when he took in the crypt right after he explained how chill he was.

But having Danny the scholar proved useful when he deciphered that both Lexi and her mother are direct descendants of the Cleopatra bloodline.

No wonder Lexi burst out laughing. I mean, what do you do with that kind of revelation?

It certainly isn't going to help her pay the bills.

I don't blame Lexi for walking away from the Brotherhood. They cost her her mother and led to the rift with her father.

Hot Antiquities Expert - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 10

Also they're still keeping secrets from her.

At least after their heart-to-heart talk, Danny and Lexi determined that they're better off together. They keep getting interrupted before the kiss though, don't they?

So the remainder of Farouk's men have the biological weapon that he had created, and the mission over the final three episodes is to stop them from using it.

Still, a bioweapon is a little blase after a metaphysical cataclysm had been hinted at earlier.

There's got to be another twist or two coming. We still don't know where Jay and Anna fit into all this yet.

If you missed this episode because it aired an hour earlier, watch Blood & Treasure online.

Were you surprised Farouk got gunned down?

Wasn't Lexi's connection to Cleopatra an interesting twist?

What did you think of Father Chuck's return?
