Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 8 Review: The Lunchbox of Destiny

That was an effective change of pace.

The name Cleopatra barely came up on Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 8.

I worried about the hunt for Cleopatra getting old after a certain amount of episodes.

Instead, the powers that be decided to use Danny and Lexi's unique skill sets to solve a different mystery.

It was a nice breather from chasing the ghosts of Nazis all the time.

Instead, Danny went home to Boston and Lexi came with him.

Not that they had much choice as they were pretty much shanghaied by FBI Agent Harper to assist him in a cold case that had a personal connection to Danny.

Danny's father Patrick, an ex-cop, was the only person convicted of an infamous art theft in Boston in 1997.

He was the only person convicted because he refused to rat out his accomplices, even the one that ran away with the 10 stolen paintings.

Even worse, the wedge between Danny and his father exists because young Danny turned him in 20 years ago.

Despite all their time together, Lexi had no idea about these deep, dark secrets of Danny: that his father was a thief and that Danny ratted him out.

Since they were still on the outs in the beginning, she had quite a bit of fun with the idea that Boy Scout Danny had a thief for a father.

Harper told Danny his father was dying and that wanted Danny's help to recover the missing artwork.

Even though Patrick was supposed to be sick, Mark Valley still looked way too young to play Danny's father.

In return, Harper would do what he could to get Patrick moved to a hospital where he would get better care.

Naturally, Danny wanted more: a 75-year-old file that might reveal where the Nazis moved to after they left Casablanca.

After all, we can't leave Cleopatra alone for any length of time.

Not knowing who might be listening, Patrick couldn't just give Danny a lead toward finding the paintings.

Instead, he gave him the cryptic suggestion that he visit his mother.

Making Goo Goo Eyes - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 8

Since his mother died in Texas, Danny determined that Patrick wasn't being literal.

He meant for Danny to retrieve the photo of his mother inside the titular Lunchbox of Destiny, which had the name Tim Keeler written on the back.

Before they can process that, they get jumped by a couple of members of Farouk's North American crew and have to jump out an upstairs window to escape.

Patrick's weaselly brother Chappie confirmed that Keeler was the one who betrayed the rest of the art-theft crew and ran off with the paintings.

Danny let his Dorchester shine throughout this particular mission, showing off his bad-cop side.

Silly Danny thought his job was done after he found the heist mastermind.

But Harper had another idea, as he needed Danny and Lexi to do an extralegal grab of the paintings from Keeler, whom he had already known was in Cuba.

I'm always in favor of any excuse to shoot Cuban scenes, so we can enjoy those great old land yachts that populate the Havana streets.

Tell me why, if Harper knew who Keeler was and that he was in Cuba, the FBI couldn't find some government law-enforcement unit to retake the painting, instead of sending two civilians.

And how did Farouk's people get to Cuba so quickly? He must have somebody inside the FBI.

Finding Cover - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 8

That was quite a clever move by Danny to switch out the artwork for some car posters, then toss the case in a fire, to distract Farouk's crew.

With only so many flights in and out of Cuba, I can't believe Farouk's ninjas didn't make another attempt to grab the art.

Danny got some measure of justice for his father, getting the paintings back from Keeler before Farouk's team could grab them to help fund his terrorism.

At least Danny and his father made up in the end.

It was sweet when Patrick said that Danny got all his good qualities from his mother.

Danny couldn't stay mad at Lexi. After he came clean about turning in Patrick, she followed suit in telling him about Fabi, especially his membership in the Brotherhood of Serapis.

Beautiful Rogue - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 8

Fabi made a tactical mistake trying to recruit Lexi for the Brotherhood. Maybe, as had been suggested, she would be a legacy pick.

But now Danny has inadvertently put Fabi on Gwen's radar.

So there's no doubt there's a showdown coming between those two.

Then there's still the whole question of whether the Brotherhood is good or bad.

But I suppose secret cults who murder people are rarely a good thing.

And while Fabi is well-positioned to run interference for the Brotherhood, he can't be the only member inside the investigation, can he?

Getting Uncovered - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 8

What's Farouk doing with a biological weapon?

I suppose when your goal is terrorism, biotoxins give you a good bang for your buck.

Just ask Omar.

But I suspect Farouk is just going to use the weapon to create an incident as a smokescreen for his real agenda, whatever that might be.

Having Doubts - Blood & Treasure Season 1 Episode 8

It's been too many episodes without Father Chuck.

Can't the Vatican help this international Farouk task force with its mission somehow?

What's Farouk up to?

Has Fabi been exposed?

When will Danny and Lexi head to South America, because that's where all the old Nazis went to hide?

Lexi: Let me get this straight: you've given me grief since we met about my career choice.
Danny: Thief is not a career.

I do what I do for money. I'm not even religious, bro.
