Amy Juergens was a prospering student and is an incredible French Horn player; she always wanted to attend Julliard after high school. She spends a summer at band camp, and has a one night stand with Ricky Underwood and becomes pregnant. After a lot of fighting, they decide to keep the baby.
She dates Ben Boykewich during the school year, but they break up after he gets back from Italy during their summer vacation. Amy then dates Jimmy, who is her mother's high school boyfriend's son; but she is still in love with Ben. Once Ben tells her that he still loves her, Amy leaves Jimmy for him, but soon finds out that Ben got Adrian pregnant, and breaks up with him.
Her relationship with Ricky becomes stronger, and they start dating. However, Amy makes sure to be cautious around him because she is afraid of getting hurt.
