James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser is an 18th Century Scottish soldier and landowner. Jamie is a natural leader, which works both on the battlefield and in his personal life as the laird of Lallybroch.

Jamie is married to Claire Fraser, a time traveler from the 20th Century who he falls in love with when she is stranded in time. Together, they share a daughter, Brianna, who was raised in the 20th Century by Claire and her husband Claire.

Claire and Jamie also had another daughter who died at birth.

Jamie has a son, William Ransom, raised by his close friend, Lord John Grey. William does not know that Jamie is his birth father.

Claire and Jamie also raised orphan and pickpocket Fergus Claudel, giving him the name, making him family.

Together, Claire and Jamie created a successful community in North Carolina, Fraser’s Ridge.
