Jonathan Ames is a struggling writer. Living in Brooklyn, he can't complete his second novel, especially after his girlfriend leaves him.
A contributor to a magazine, Jonathan drinks a lot, loves Internet backgammon, white wine, pot and detective books. The latter interest sparks a fantasy within him:
Ames begins to live a double life, moonlighting as a private investigator in order to fulfill his dream of being a hero
