Jenn: [beat] Deception noted.
Ben: I know this is good news, so why am I so nervous?
Addison: Because being a spy isn’t the fantasy people think it is? In real life, you’re on your own. And if you make a mistake, it is either you or Layla at the bottom of the Nile.
Ben: Is that supposed to be a pep talk? I think you’ve been spending too much time with Jenn.
Barnes: Nomad. Ha. Let’s not get carried away, kid. Nomad’s a myth and if he’s not, he’s certainly not some part-time tour guide who’s probably slept with half her clients.
Addison: Well, this is why Layla got away with it. She was smart and the world, totally sexist.
Addison: Okay, Ben, this is the world of espionage. It’s… it’s like the opposite of you. Everyone’s a liar, looking for someone to trust. And they’re all terrified of betrayal because they betray for a living.
Ben: You’re really starting to put a damper on my James Bond fantasy.
Addison: Good. Because this isn’t a game.
Addison: Egypt. This is amazing. You’ve never leapt out of the country before.
Ben: Actually, I did. It’s just… you all thought I was dead.
Addison: Can I ask what you talked about?
Magic: Alchemy.
Addison: Alchemy. Like magically turning metals into gold?
Magic: Like turning a bad situation into a good one.
Jenn: I don’t understand any of this stuff. You tell him.
Addison: He does not want to see me.
Jenn: I think between talking to his ex and burning at the stake, he’s gonna choose talking to his ex.
Addison: I went from being the leaper to being a hologram to basically being our worst intern ever.
Magic: Well, certainly not our worst. Remember Jeffrey in R&D?
Addison: When I lost Ben, hearing about your grieving process really helped me with my own. But since we’ve been together, you’ve stopped talking about Kate. I want you to know that you can, especially when you’re walking around the place where you two met.
Tom: I appreciate that. But if I don’t, it’s just because we’re on mission and it doesn’t help me to focus on the past right now.
Jenn: Is anybody else’s brain melting with the possibilities here? I mean, if Ben discovers the secret to fusion in 1955, won’t that massively change the course of the twentieth century?
Addison: No more gas pumps. No more global warming.
Jenn: Magic picked a hell of a day to take off. This is the butterfly effect to end all butterfly effects. Our cars are going to be flying by the time this is over.
Ian: Everything that’s happened to Ben, to Magic, it all happened because my future self dropped this nuclear bomb that’s left this team in an emotional wasteland. We’re slowly being poisoned by the radioactive fallout.
Addison: Okay, that’s quite a metaphor.
Ian: I know. It’s not one of my best but it doesn’t mean that it’s not true. Or that I’m not consumed by guilt because of it.
I do know a little something about guilt. It’s one thing to feel it when you intended to hurt someone. But when you did your best… All guilt is going to do is keep you stuck.
