THATCHER: "Oh, hey, Dr. O'Malley."
GEORGE: [surprised] "Hi."
THATCHER: "I was looking for you. Before, when I was asking about Meredith... You know her. You're her friend?"
GEORGE: "I used to be her roommate."
THATCHER: "Oh, so, you know her really well."
GEORGE: "Pretty well, yeah."
THATCHER: "Um, she... she came to see me a couple weeks ago..."
GEORGE: [pauses] "A couple weeks ago?"
THATCHER: "Yeah. I... I didn’t know what to say to her. She looks... so much like her mother. Ellis was cold. I mean, I was a coward, I was. I left. But her mother would never let me know her and now I don’t know how to know her."
GEORGE: [pauses] "Well, Meredith is anything but cold. She smiles... not that often, but when she does, you know because she's really going through a lot, but it's… you just feel warm. She's kind. I mean, she can be a little selfish at times, and she's flawed. But she's kind. She cares about people and, um... she cares about her patients. She's going to be a brilliant surgeon. You know, around here, she's known as the one to beat. So, I... I guess she has that in common with her mom, but the rest of her, I think, the rest of that, she gets from you."
THATCHER: "Hmm... do you... know where she is?"
GEORGE: "I think she left already. But I could tell her you were here, if you want me to."
THATCHER: "Yeah. Okay. Thank you."
GEORGE: "You're welcome."
THATCHER: "Okay."
GEORGE: "Okay. Bye."
THATCHER: "Bye."
MEREDITH: [whispering, hiding] "Thank you, George."

ALEX: "So this whole lying thing. That's working out for you?"
BEATRICE: "Excuse me?"
ALEX: "Look, you're going to die and soon. You get that, right? There's no rosy picture to paint here."
BEATRICE: "You're not a mother. You don't know what its like to hold your newborn baby in your arms and smell the top of her head... and know that your only job in this world is to protect her."
ALEX: "You think you're protecting her?"
BEATRICE: "I'm protecting her."
ALEX: "Well, you call it what you want. But you should know you're leaving behind a kid that will probably hate you for the rest of her life."

MOLLY: "You think I'm too young to be married."
MEREDITH: [pauses] "No..."
MOLLY: "It's okay. Everybody says I'm too young. If I saw me, I'd think I was too young."
MEREDITH: "Umm, how old are you?"
MOLLY: "22. Eric's 23 and he's in the Army and he was getting shipped out. And... I just love him so much. You know? So anyway, I proposed."

THATCHER: "I spent years looking at this board. Holding a crying baby, trying to get an idea of when my wife would get out of surgery. 'Appy,' that takes about an hour. Now anything with the word "cardio" in it, I knew not to plan on seeing her that day."
RICHARD: "Thatcher, are you aware of what's going on with Ellis?"
THATCHER: "You have no right. No right... to talk to me about Ellis."
RICHARD: "I'm sorry. I... I was trying to talk to you about Meredith. Thatcher, Ellis has Early Onset Alzheimer's. It's advanced. It's hard on Meredith as you can imagine, and I thought you'd want to know."

IZZIE: "So... George? He's really your type, huh?"
CALLI: "You don't see him. Either of you. He's just, he's just George to you. He's just... O'Malley, your roommate."
IZZIE: "You don't have to get all-"
CALLI: "He makes my world stop. George O'Malley is sweet and kind and smart and strong. And he makes my world stop. So you shut up about him."

MIRANDA: "I will NOT be mommytracked, you understand?"
DEREK: "I need an intern."
MIRANDA: "Well, you're getting me. I'm not gonna be mommytracked!"

MEREDITH: "I swear I just saw my father..."
CRISTINA: "Did you see your sister, too?"

"Plus, her name's Calli! Who is named Calli!? That's not even a real name!"

IZZIE

DEREK: "Dr. Bailey, what's wrong?"
MIRANDA: "I went and had a baby, that's what's wrong. Now you don't see my name anywhere on that board. I stopped being a doctor and started being a mother!"

"I'm done! I finished. I finished first. Yes, I am Dr. Webber. That is why I am the Chief!" [sings, walks away] "That's why I'm the Chief!"

RICHARD

GEORGE: "You live here?"
CALLI: "I... I know it seems weird. But I spend so much time at the hospital as it is."
GEORGE: [pauses] "Do you know how to cut hair?"

ADDISON: "Dr. O'Malley, did you get Molly Thompson's test results back from the lab yet?"
GEORGE: [pauses] "No."
ADDISON: "What? Dr. O'Malley, when I assign you to a case, I expect you to give it your undivided attention. Give me one good reason I shouldn't take you off this case!"
GEORGE: [pauses] "I just discovered that Molly Thompson's maiden name is Grey, making her the daughter of Thatcher Grey, meaning that Meredith has a sister she doesn't even know exists. And I don’t care. I don’t. I'm on this case. and... apparently God hates me."
ADDISON: "Okay."
GEORGE: "Thanks."

Grey's Anatomy Season 2 Episode 22 Quotes

[narrating] "So go ahead. Argue with the ref, change the rules. Cheat a little, take a break and tend to your wounds. But play. Play. Play hard, play fast... play loose and free. Play as if there were no tomorrow. It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game... right?

MEREDITH

[narrating] "A good basketball game can have us all on the edge of our seats. Games are all about the glory, pain and the play-by-play. Then there are the more solitary games. The ones we play all by ourselves. The social games, the mind games. We use them to pass the time to make life more interesting... to distract us from what's really going on. There are those of us who love to play games, any games. And there are those of us who love to play a little too much."
