Ethan: No, she’s not. She wants to date you. She doesn’t want to be friends.
Izzy: So, what, you’re saying that if we weren’t dating, you wouldn’t want to be my friend?
Ethan: No.
Izzy: Well, now it sort of feels like you’re asking me to choose. You or her.
Ethan: Well, I mean, she likes you, so I guess, yeah, I am.
[to Izzy] I know that you may think my reporting is annoying sometimes, but I wouldn’t know how to do it without you. Good journalists, they look at both perspectives and consider other people’s feelings. I forget to do that sometimes, but you never do.
Hilde
Hilde: Dad, do you think the reporters at The Boston Globe said, “I’m sorry. I can’t interview this priest. I can’t crack the story of a generation because I have to go walk my dog?”
Matt: Wait, I told you not to watch that movie.
Matt: Think it could be a hunter?
Frank: No way. If you think that looks like a hunter, you’ve been in the city too long.
You care more about the story than you do about us.

Bridget: We’re all part of this family, and we need to pitch in.
Izzy: Yeah, except for Dad and Hilde. Their job comes before everything else, including you and me and Ginny and Pop-Pop. God forbid they have to go chasing some story right when I need to do something else. It’s like democracy is going to die in darkness because I want to hang out with my friends.
Izzy: I don’t know, sometimes it’s just like, even in the family, like I’m all alone. Like I don’t quite fit anywhere. I don’t fit with anyone.
Bridget: You always fit with me. Okay?

Spoon: You were in Girl Scouts?
Hilde: Well, no. But I did have to read their handbook for an article I was working on in Brooklyn. It was an exposé on who got to use the cookie profits.

Rutherford: I think you did the right thing firing those deputies.
Trip: Well, it seemed important to send a message.
Rutherford: Yeah, there’s no place for racist behavior like that, not even in a small town, as you say. But the fact that it happened at all speaks to a lack of respect for your leadership, which is perhaps bigger than you. Bigger than all this.
Trip: Well, racism, it’s pretty big.
Rutherford: Don’t take this the wrong way, but maybe this town isn’t ready for you.
