In 2015, Cassie asks Cole to open up to her and share a few details of his life. It's only fair after all, since he knows her story, including the building where she dies. Unfortunately, Cole is pulled back to 2043 before sharing a single word. The West 7, Cole and Ramse's old crew, had launched an attack on the temporal facility and the mission was in danger. Via flashback, we learn that Deacon, also known as the "Scav King," led a revolt that killed hundreds (including children) in the West 7 quarantine zone. While hunting for food, Cole and Ramse come across these marauders and join them because the promise of food, water and a bed to sleep in was too tempting. Flash forward to 2043, Deacon and his scav enter the facility through secret tunnels they couldn't possibly know about. They overpower our heroes, kill Ramse and come after Cole. However, Jones convinces him the right thing to do is go back in time and continue the fight with Cassie. Unfortunately, Jones sends Cole just a few days back in time. He runs into Max and is quickly captured by the West 7. Cole thinks back to his time with these criminals and we realize they parted ways because Deacon insisted Cole kill Ramse. Cole adapted quickly, but Ramse's moral compass got him in trouble. Of course, Cole stuck with his friend and they snuck away one night. Max never forgave Cole for running away, but she now understood his reasoning better. Deacon beat and drugged Cole, causing him to reveal the location of the tunnels and the West 7 planned their attack. Max chooses a side, freeing Cole so they can make their way to the temporal facility. There he sees a future version of himself fighting the scavs. Since Cole already knew the outcome of the battle, he sent Max to protect Jones and went to save Ramse from certain death. Unfortunately, Deacon gets away but the time machine is safe and everyone is alive. Jones explains that the time machine was damaged during the shootout, which is why his trip was cut short. When he finally returns to 2015, Cole learns that Cassie has found the "Night Room."
