Jennifer Goines arrives at the mysterious "Night Room," and meets Ivan. He brings her up to speed on the security system and the vault. As she enters, Jennifer looks up at the "Big Burn" system and says "complete with evening stars." She's very impressed with the place, including the vault's fail-safes. Though Jennifer is the only person that can open the vault, she uneasy about its contents. In 2043, Cole prepares to splinter back and join Cassie in locating the Night Room. He tells Jones of his pre-jump tradition of knocking a few back with Ramse and asks her to join them. During the festivities, we learn Jones had been married, but only for a few days. An explosion interrupts the fun, the time machine's core had become unstable after the West VII attack. However, that glitch is fixed and Cole soon finds himself back in 2015 with Cassie. They arrive at the location of the Night Room, and head inside only to find the Army of the 12 Monkeys got there first. That's right, the Pallid Man broke Jennifer. The villain uses a bamboo torture technique in an attempt to extract information from Cole. During the interrogation/torture, the Pallid Man mentions "The Witness" and Cole quickly asks if that's his boss. "The Witness" is the latest mystery, but I'm sure we'll learn more about this person in good time. The Pallid Man also bring's up the death's of both Leland and Henri in Haiti, leaving Dr. Railly quite shocked. Cole confesses that had Henri lived, it might have led the 12 Monkeys to the Night Room sooner. He didn't have any other choice. Though Cassie didn't take the news of Henri's murder too well, Jennifer was thrilled to hear Cole killed her father. Meanwhile, in 2043, Max shares rumors about a German doctor's twisted experiments. Ramse becomes suspicious of Jones and discovers files of other time travel experiments which killed the volunteers. Jones claims she committed those atrocities in the name of saving the human race. "What is the lives of a few people, compared to the whole of human history?" Jones asks Ramse. In the past, the vault is opened revealing the "Origin" of Leland Goines' virus; a centuries old human corpse. Of course, the final fail-safe kicks in and a soldiers hand is vaporized. "I got 'em otter eyes" Jennifer tells Cole. The Pallid Man convinces a very confused Jennifer to disarm the fail-safe. Cole springs into action breaking the "Origin's" container and signaling to Cassie above, they set off the "Big Burn." Needless to say, the Pallid Man is not happy and marches out of the lab with Cassie and Jennifer as hostages. Cole feels the splinter coming on and soon finds himself in 2043. Only the future has changed dramatically and the West VII now control the temporal facility.
