-We are introduced to Andre "Dre" Johnson, his wife Rainbow, and his four children at their home in Los Angeles.

-We learn that Andre is up for a promotion to be the first black Senior Vice President at his advertising agency. He gets the job, but its the SVP of a new "Urban" Division. 

-Andre is upset to find out that his son, Andre Jr, is going by Andy at school and wants to join the field hockey team. 

-At dinner with his family, Andre is upset that his youngest son doesn't know that Obama is the first black president because he's the only president he's ever known. He also discovers his other kids don't really care. 

-Andre Jr asks to convert to Judaism so he can have a Bar Mitzvah. Andre instead says he'll throw him an African Heritage party and tries to make him connect with their roots. 

-Andre presents a video that he deems 'urban" and is nearly fired for it, which upsets Rainbow. He later presents a new one as he learns to embrace his new position. 

-Andre decides to throw his son a "Hip Hop Bro-Mitzvah" as a compomise for his birthday party.
