-Dr. Megan Hunt's car accident four years ago ended her career as a brilliant neurosurgeon. The ensuing numbness in her hands caused her to lose a patient.
-In her new role as medical examiner, Hunt investigates the death of Angela Swanson, an attorney who was killed by a blow to the head while jogging.
-Megan frequently butts heads with police detectives and coworkers with her confrontational style and unorthodox field work.
-DNA evidence proves Swanson was having an affair with her boss, Brad. Megan's investigation proves that Angela was poisoned and passed out on her jog, hitting her head.
-Brad's wife found he and Angela having sex and in a moment of rage, poisoned Angela's sports drink. She confesses once confronted.
-Megan's husband was granted full custody of their daughter Lacey during their divorce five years ago because Megan's career demanded so many hours.
-Although her husband tells her not to come, Megan goes to the party and gives her twelve year old a gift, the key to her apartment where she is always welcomed. When Megan gets home that night she finds a note and a piece of birthday cake from her daughter.
