Xander is practicing asking Buffy on a date with Willow. He wants to go with Buffy to the Spring Fling.

Buffy is on patrol and fighting a vampire. While Cordelia is making out with her boyfriend in the car, Buffy stakes the vampire.

Giles reads a passage in the codex that foretells The Master will rise and kill the Slayer. An earthquake is triggered in Sunnydale.

Giles acts strangely around Buffy the next morning.

Xander asks Buffy out on a date. She turns him down. She sees him as a friend and wants to stay that way.

Jenny Calendar goes to Giles to ask if something evil is coming. Signs around the world are occurring which signal the apocalypse.

After Cordelia asks Willow for a favor to help with the dance, Willow checks in on Xander. He's upset about Buffy turning him down. He asks Willow to the dance as his friend to have a good time, but she turns him down too. She doesn't want to be his backup date and watch him pine for Buffy.

Buffy sees blood pouring from the sink. She heads to the library and overhears Giles telling Angel that The Master will kill Buffy the next night. She panics and quits being the Slayer to save her life.

Joyce sees Buffy crying and thinks it has something to do with a boy. She shows her the white dress she bought her for the Spring Fling.

Cordelia and Willow come across the dead bodies of Sunnydale High students within the student lounge. One of the bodies is Cordelia's boyfriend, Kevin. Willow is shaken up; Buffy comforts her.

Giles plans to fight The Master himself to save Buffy. However, Buffy won't let that happen. She knocks him out, takes her own weapons and follows The Anointed One to see The Master.

Xander visits Angel as he needs his help to save Buffy.

Buffy shoots an arrow at The Master and he catches it. As she moves around, he uses hypnosis to stop her. He bites Buffy and uses the power to free himself. Buffy drowns and dies in the water.

Xander performs CPR on Buffy and she wakes up. Buffy is alive again.

Vampires surround Sunnydale High. Cordelia arrives in her car to save Jenny and Willow. She drives through the school doors to bring them to the library.

Cordelia, Giles, Jenny and Willow barricade themselves in the library. Vampires try to break through the doors while a tentacle creature emerges from the ground.

Buffy heads to the roof to fight The Master. He tries to perform hypnosis again, but it fails. The two fight it out; Buffy throws The Master through the glass roof and falls on a piece of wood. The Master dies.

Everything goes back to normal after The Master dies. The hellmouth is sealed again and the vampires flee from the school. The Scoobies head to the Spring Fling to celebrate; The Master's skeleton is left behind.
