Recap

A boy, Ben, from class tries flirting with Buffy at The Bronze. He insinuates that he wants her to invite him to Sadie Hawkins. She politely declines as she's not over Angelus.

A girl and boy are arguing at Sunnydale High. The boy whips out a gun and plans to shoot her. Buffy arrives in time to save her, but neither of them remember why they were fighting. The gun he dropped has disappeared.

Principal Snyder thinks Buffy orchestrated the entire thing with the gun. He doesn't believe it happened. As he leaves, an older 1955 Sunnydale High yearbook falls from the shelf.

Willow is teaching Jenny Calendar's class. She gives Giles a rose quartz that was in Jenny's desk; she thinks Jenny would've wanted him to have it.

Buffy dozes off in class, but experiences a Slayer dream/premonition of Sunnydale High in 1955. She witnesses a student and teacher flirt in class.

The teacher in Buffy's class writes, "Don't walk away from me, Bitch!" on the chalkboard.

A demon arm grabs Xander by the chest and pulls him to the locker. Nothing is inside the locker.

The Scoobies determine that Sunnydale High is being haunted by a poltergeist.

Later at night, the janitor and a teacher fall under the same spell of the ghosts. The janitor shoots and kills the teacher. Giles stops him from running, but the gun disappears.

Drusilla, Spike and Angelus move into their new home.

Giles thinks the poltergeist is Jenny Calendar. However, the Scoobies are positive it's not her since the murder didn't fit with how Jenny was killed.

The Scoobies discover that the ghosts fit with the murder-suicide of a teacher and student in 1955. The ghosts are James (the student) and Grace Newman (the teacher). They want to conduct an exorcism to get rid of the ghosts.

Cordelia wants to conduct a boycott of the Sadie Hawkins dance.

The spaghetti in the cafeteria turns into snakes. Everyone panics and Cordelia gets bit by one of the snakes.

Principal Snyder knows about the hellmouth. Also, the city council and the mayor are well aware too.

Willow, Cordelia, Xander and Buffy sneak into the school to perform the exorcism.

Drusilla experiences a vision of the ghost going after Buffy. She urges Angelus to go after Buffy since she's ready for their meeting.

Buffy overhears music in the music room and James' ghost tells her to get out. Cordelia sees her face melting in the mirror. Willow is nearly swallowed into the ground until Giles saves her.

The Scoobies conduct the exorcism and the school is over-run with bugs.

Giles deduces that James is stuck in purgatory. He's forced to relive killing Ms. Newman over and over. Buffy leaves the home and heads to Sunnydale High.

Angelus heads to Sunnydale High too and torments her. Both he and Buffy get possessed by the spirits, with Buffy taking on the role of James and Angelus as the teacher. She shoots him dead.

Buffy heads over to kill herself as James, but Angelus wakes up. He's still possessed by Ms. Newman and he stops Buffy. Her ghost forgives James and the two move on together into the afterlife.

Buffy is still in shock that James chose her to possess. She doesn't understand why Grace forgave James.

Angelus tries to clean himself after experiencing love with Buffy.

Spike gets up from his wheelchair. He's healed and could stand all this time.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2 Episode 19 Quotes

Giles: To forgive is an act of compassion, Buffy. It's-it's...it's not done because people deserve it. It's done because they need it.
Buffy: No. James destroyed the one person he loved the most in a moment of blind passion. And that's not something you forgive. No matter why he did what he did. And no matter if he knows now that it was wrong and selfish and stupid, it is just something he's gonna have to live with.
Xander: He can't live with it, Buff. He's dead.
[Buffy leaves]
Cordelia: Okay. Over identify much?

Willow: You’re thinking too much. Maybe you need to be impulsive?
Buffy: Impulsive? Do you remember my ex-boyfriend, the vampire? I slept with him, he lost his soul, now my boyfriend's gone forever and the demon that wears his face is killing my friends. The next impulsive decision I make will involve my choice of dentures.
Willow: Okay, the Angel thing went badly. I'm on board with that, but that's not your fault. And anyways, love isn't always like that. Love can be...nice.
