Antonio and Laura are called to the site of an accident where a beam slipped off a crane and smashed into a building being developed. The building is owned by a wealthy tycoon, Frank Landis, and his son-in-law Evan Wheeler was killed in the accident.

Antonio and Laura start their investigation by talking to the crane operator, who claims not to know what happened. His wife is annoyed with them questioning him and cuts the questioning off when Laura asks about the operator's sobriety during the accident. He tests positive for cocaine and a rumor begins that he is an ex-addict that was responsible for the accident, but it is soon discovered that the crane was sabotaged and thus it wouldn't have mattered if the crane operator was high or not. Furthermore, the crane operator's Thermos was tampered with and he was drugged against his will, presumably to be used as a scapegoat.

Stone talks to the victim's wife, Sarah, who claims not to know anything about the accident, but Valdez discovers that she arrived on the scene before the news crews did, despite having claimed she learned about it from the morning news. At first Sarah admits to nothing, saying that Frank is untouchable, but when Stone threatens to have her arrested and her young daughter put in foster care she admits that she knew Frank sabotaged his own building construction.

Frank is arrested but he says that Sarah will never testify against him. Jeffries warns Stone to take a deal because some battles are not worth fighting. Stone refuses to listen, however, and when the case against Frank's corporation is dismissed he arrests Frank personally.

Frank meets with Jeffries and wants special treatment. He threatens Jeffries when he doesn't get it.

On Jeffries advice, Stone goes to a party Frank is having and accuses him in front of all his friends and family of being a fraud. He is escorted out but not before making everyone gasp.

The defense plans to rest without Frank testifying, but after what Stone did he decides to prove himself. Stone uses Frank's own words to prove that he didn't care if his son-in-law died.

Frank's son confesses that Sarah sabotaged the crane on Frank's orders. Stone says he is going after the whole family.

Frank is found guilty. He and Sarah are both arrested.

Jeffries has one last drink with Stone and Valdez, as their club memberships will probably be terminated due to Frank's dirty secrets.
