Marcel is at the bar and flirting with Avery. Meanwhile, Scott sees a friend from the PD, who tells him how a cop he knows is not in good shape and shouldn't be invited over.

Blake texts Marcel while he's with Avery and he feels bad that he's been drinking. Avery says he has a right to a social life -- does he want to come over to her place? He turns her down because he has an early shift coming.

Uncle Joe gets in a fight with some guy. The other cop tells Scott to get Joe out of there.

Will has just a quick second for Sharon before Jessa shows up. She blames herself. Maybe her questioning his judgment caused his heart attack. Will reassures her that it's not her fault. She seems to be into Will as she leaves.

Scott goes to see Joe in hospital. Joe thanks him and his father for looking out for him. Scott asks him about the incident with the rookie. Joe says this is standard police procedure. Scott asks about the fallout. Joe had to see a department shrink, but didn't want to open up to him. Scott tries to convince him to talk to Charles. Charles is not connected to the department so Joe won't get in any trouble at work. Joe says well his wife wants him in therapy so maybe.

Archer's conversation with Choi is interrupted by a car accident victim coming in. Marcel won't let Choi help lift the guy. However he does let Choi prep for a chest tube. Choi is concerned about the patient's swollen abdomen.

Sharon calls a meeting and announces everyone is to have random drug tests before the end of their shifts.

Stevie is searching for her mom. She tells Will what's up. She's worried her mom may have turned to drugs/trying to score. Will offers to help search. No one will miss him at his 5 hour Zoom meeting. Stevie is sure she will be fine but Will thinks she could use backup

Charles talks to Joe, who wants meds so his wife will take him back. Charles says he gets that he wouldn't want a first-year resident going at him too.

Vanessa is throwing up in the bathroom and wants to go home. Maggie says she has to take the drug test before she can go home. Suddenly Vanessa is well enough to stay.

Marcel apologizes for not being able to scrub in last night. Blake suddenly thinks he's not committed (because he had a night off?) Marcel says he wasn't on call last night. Blake says he needs to be on call 24/7 to shadow her.

Choi tells Marcel that the patient has an abdominal hernia. Marcel wants to operate right now. Choi has another idea. Marcel doesn't think it's a good idea. Choi doesn't want to undermine Marcel but he's seen this work before. Marcel hangs up the phone and says manual reduction is physically demanding. With Ethan's injury - Ethan says let me worry about it. Marcel won't listen because he's worried an exhausted Choi will harm the patient.

Charles talks to Joe about his sergeant. Joe says the sergeant stiffed him $1800 and cut out overtime for him. He won't appeal and give the sergeant the satisfaction of cutting him down. He changes the subject when Charles tries to find out what he means about taking matters into his own hands.

Stevie has found out that Terri was pawning a bracelet. Will offers to call Jay but Stevie doesn't want Terri to go to jail. She can't put her through that again.

Joe refuses to talk further and runs away.

Choi tells Marcus that the OR is already being prepped for him. Marcus said he told his wife not to come because she has pre-eclampsia and is 8 months pregnant. Marcus is upset about the possibility of his wife going into labor while he isn't there. No other options besides surgery.

Charles talks to Sharon about Joe. He's concerned that Joe is stalking the sergeant. Sharon says without an explicit threat they can't commit Joe. Charles says that means he has to alert the sergeant about the potential threat.. But he hates going that way when there's so much stigma around cops seeking mental health. Sharon says this is a tough one but she will have his back no matter what he decides.

Maggie finds Vanessa outside. She thinks Vanessa is crying. Vanessa starts freaking out. Maggie says it's a panic attack, slow down your breathing. She asks what's going on. Vanessa says she's so screwed. She's been taking Adderall without a prescription. She thinks everyone does it. She says she threw up her pill as soon as she took it this morning. She is not going to pass the test and she'll lose everything.  Maggie says we will figure this out. Vanessa says this is on me. Maggie insists on helping her. She will give her an off-the-record test in a few hours and see where they're at, but Vanessa has to stop taking Adderall.

Stevie and Will go looking for Terri. There are people passed out all over the place. Stevie finds a teenager next to her passed woman who she says is her mother.

Marcel comes into the room to find Archer has decided to side with Choi. Marcel thinks it is not safe for Choi. Archer says we're right here if anything goes wrong.

Maggie calls Vanessa into an exam room. She got the off-the-record test. Adderall is still present but has to be a tiny amount. Vanessa says so it's all over. Maggie gives her something to dilute her urine so that she has a chance of making the drug undetectable. Maggie is angry and hopes that Vanessa is done with the drugs. Vanessa swears she is.

Marcus is screaming with pain. Choi says he needs more leverage. Marcel thinks they should operate. Choi says no. He takes oo fhis backpack because it's too restrictive and insists he's good. He says it's almost there. Archer tells Marcel to cancel the OR. Marcus thanks Choi. hoi turns to Marcel and says he needs an MRI right now.

Stevie tends to the girl. Mother wakes up and says get away from her. Stevie helps to remove a splinter and offers the girl food but she doesn't want to leave her mo. The cops arrive and Stevie won't let the girl run away with her mom.

Scott is angry that Charles reported Joe. What did he say that was so bad? Charles says he can't tell Scott that. Scott says this bluster is part of cop culture. Charles says he has to go with his instincts. Scott is angry that Charles destroyed Joe's career.

Will thanks the cop who takes the child away. DCFS has a home lined up for her. Stevie is crying. She knows how the girl feels, like this is all her fault. She never should have left Chicago. It was her job to protect her mom. Will hugs her and tells her no.

Marcel thinks Archer shouldn't have let Ethan push himself this way. Archer says marines are tough. Marcel tells him that's BS and as Acting Chief Archer should have looked out for Ethan.

Stevie tells Will she's headed home. WIll makes her promise before he gets out.

Vanessa has given her sample. She's sorry for being hard on Maggie. It means a lot to her that Maggie put her neck out for her. Maggie says Vanessa owes her nothing.

Will goes to look in on Matt. He says Matt scared him and was looking for a distraction like he had a lot on his mind. Matt can't keep his eyes open. Will says he'll let him rest.

No one has seen Joe and he is not picking up his phone. He's not at his apartment either. Scott's dad is worried Joe might attempt suicide. Scott will stop by Marsha's.

Charles finds Joe in his office with a razor blade.

Scott finds Joe's car right outside.

Charles tries to talk this through. Joe says Charles is like everyone else, trying to screw him over. He wants Charles to call someone and say he made a mistake. Scott breaks in and stops Joe.

Sharon is in the middle of a doctor's appointment when Will comes in. Yang leaves and Will says Cooper was out of it. Sharon thinks they should put this on hold because it's taking too much of a toll on them both. She can't get her blood sugar under control and the doctors think it might be stress related. Sharon won't let Will continue on his own.

Marcel confronts Blake. Pushing doctors past their limits doesn't work. Blake says the cost of not giving it everything you've got keeps her up at night and she thinks Marcel is the same way.

Scott comes to see Charles. He apologizes for earlier. He never thought Uncle Joe could do th is. Charles says it's hard when you're close to someone. Scott says Marsha kicked Joe out because he was making threates. He thanks Charles for not pressing charges. Charles says that would be the last thing Joe needs. He's glad Joe will get help.

Charles thinks it's hard for Scott, straddling two worlds. Scott says when he was a ocp,, tough guy behavior was normalized.

Jessa shows up and invites Will to come listen to her niece sing carols at the tree lighting ceremony downtown. Will accepts.

Choi talks with Sharon. He's decided to have a spinal fusion. It'll require two months of rehab post op. Sharon is sorry. Choi says don't be. Sharon tells him to take as much time as he needs to recover and he will have his job back whenever he is ready.. He helps Sharon into her car.

Terri shows up and wants to pay Stevie back. She just wanted her van back. She won't ocme upstairs. She's leaving for a few months. She needs to be on the road. Stevie tells her to take care of herself. Terri hugs her and says she loves her. Stevie says she's always here. Terri gets back in her van, smiling widely, and takes off.
