Recap

Dylan is sitting with Milena in a car when she hears that shots were fired. She tells him to go to the hospital while she checks it out.

Marcel brings Blake coffee. She got her MRI. He looks at it and says she needs surgery for spinal compression. She insists she can work through it with physical therapy. She doesn't have six to eight weeks to recover.

A shooting citim comes into the hospital. His wife refuses to leave but Choi clears the room. Dylan sees a bullet even though there's an exit wound. The guy says he's never been shot before.

Charles is talking to Lonnie when Anna shows up with his phone. She knows Lonnie from when they did family therapy. She goes. Lonnie asks if Anna knows about them. Charles says he guesses he hasn't found the right time to tell her. Lonnie suggests he's trying to protect Anna from a difficult conversation. He says no. Anyway he has to get upstairs now.

Will tells Hannah her rent check bounced but it's no big deal. A nurse approaches. A patient's mom won't leave her room.

Will and Hannah see Kat, a 26-year-old pregnant woman, and her mom. Kat feels her mom thinks she can do nothing right. They get the mom to leave. Something is odd with Kat's pregnancy and she needs an ultrasound but doesn't want them to tell her mom.

Maggie and Vanessa see a patient who feels like something is stuck in her throat. She's seen a lot of doctors and ruled out a lot of stuff. She is a motivational speaker and when her friend got diagnosed with ALS she thought she had it too, but didn't. But she had a bunch of symptoms that no one could figure it out. Vanessa orders blood work and wants to look at her throat. She goes out of the room and asks Maggie about her bio dad. Maggie has found nothing.

Vanessa leaves and Sharon approaches. She can tell Maggie is upset. She doesn't want to disrupt the bio dad's life 20 years later. Ben shows up for a check up and to say hi. He leaves and Sharon suggests Maggie discuss this with her. Maggie refuses.

Dylan has sent Sam for a CT. He thinks there may be bullet fragments in his body He and Ethan watch body cam footage fromt he cops so they can see how many times Sam was shot. It looks like only one shot -- so where did the one in his lung come from?

Marcel goes to Blake. He notices she is buttoned wrong. She walks away and he says if she can't close a button she can't operate. It isn't safe for her to do surgery. She walks off.

Dylan and Ethan talk to Sam. It's clear to them he was shot before. Alice walks in and is angry that he never told her. She says he only cares about his friends and storms off.

No foreign bodies so Vanessa's patient can go home. Lydia cries that she keeps going to doctors and not getting answers. She just as quickly turns it off. Vanessa says she is going to speak with a colleague to figure something out and tells Charles about the patient and asks him to talk to her.

Kat's blood pressure is up and glucose is low. Hannah says could be acute fatty liver -- they need to know for sure. Will asks Marcel to do a biopsy. The surgery is risky but if they don't do it mom and baby could die. Hannah is annoyed that Will presses Marcel for her. She tells him to stop trying to save her.

Charles says Lydia is malingering. SHe just wants answers. Maybe they should run more tests. Vanessa also wants to do a psych questionnaire.

Dylan talks to a cop. Any word on other injuries? The guy says it's dangerous out there. Alice runs up to Dylan and asks how Sam is. Someone calls Dylan away. Sam is crashing. Alice follows Scott and says OMG.

Maggie tells Sharon that she loved Vanessa's biodad. She is afraid of what she would feel if she saw him again. Sharon thinks she's thinking too far ahead.

Hannah watches Marcel with Kat. He says the biopsy site is bleeding. Results show Kat does have acute fatty liver and they need to do a C-section right away even though it's too soon. Her mother runs up and Kat is scared and wants her as close as possible.

Lydia doesn't want to do a psych eval and demands that someone take her seriously. She throws something and then says she doesn't know why this keeps happening. She gets very emotional and it just comes over her but then it ends as if someone hit a switch. Charles tells Vanessa he thinks this is the opposite of psychiatric.

Alice needs to make a choice about Sam's care. He can do a stent, which is less invasive, but he'd have to be on anticougulants and not be able to be on active duty, or he could do a more invasive procedure with lots of risks. Alice wants the stent.

Liver is still not clotting during the C-section. The baby is delivered and needs intubation. There is a lot of bleeding and Kat starts hemmoraging. BP dropping. Liver has ruptured and she is bleeding out.

Kat's mother runs after them. Marcel tells her they think Kat needs a liver transplant from a living donor. Her mom is ready to do it now. She knows she is the same blood type and won't leave til they agree.

Charles watches Lydia's presentation. She is talking about how we put thigns aside when they will hurt our kids instead of telling them the truth.

Marcel wants Blake to help with the procedure but she says she can't because of her hand (didn't he tell her that earlier?) and guides him through it.

Charles gives Lydia a transcript of her talk. She stutters through it.  He notices her speech is different on the video. He and Vanessa think it might be ALS after all.She has a rarer form of it. Lydia is sad but relieved. ALS was her greatest fear but at least she finally had an answer.

Dylan thinks Sam would want the other procedure.  They talk to Alice. Dylan says being a cop is part of who he is and part of who Sam is too. They want to show her the body cam footage even though it's difficult. They see that he was calling for Alice.  Dylan asks her if she's sure she wants to do the stent instead of the thoroacodamy as Sam would want. She agrees to the thorocodamy.

Ben tells Maggie his CT is clear. Maggie wants to go celebrate with him.

The nurses bring in the preemie baby in her isolette. Kat's mom reassures her that Kat will be able to take care of her.

Will apologizes to Hannah. She knows it wasn't coming from a bad place. She gives him the rent money.

Charles says that there's a lot they can do for Lydia. Vanessa wonders why he chose that talk when it was so far down on the list.

On the rooftop, Blake compliments Marcel. She scheduled her surgery. She can see now her patients are in good hands with Marcel while she recovers. He kissed her ear.

Charles goes to see Anna. He wants to talk to her about Lonnie. She is upset though because her boyfriend just broke up with her. Charles decides what he had to say can wait.

Dylan says that Archer has cleared Sam to go back to work in six weeks. He hopes Alice can handle that.

Jessie grabs Will by the arm and begs him not to testify but runs off when a security guard asks Will if there's a problem.

Milena finds Dylan and says there was a mole in CPD who tipped off the gangsters. She's been made and has to go off grid. He has a friend who's fixing up a building where she can stay. She says her name is Jo.

Ethan goes to see Gerald with a bottle of Scotch like his dad liked. Gerald has a lot of photos of Ethan and his family. He and Ethan's dad spent 50 years together but it was all in secret. Gerald has a funny story about a bottle of Scotch to tell him.
