Recap

After Miles and Nia were paired up for their marketing class, she revealed that she's been a fan of his podcast and wanted to know more about the authenticity of the God account.

As they get on an elevator, they're met with Miles' latest friend suggestion, a pregnant woman named Blair.

When the elevator gets stuck between floors, Blair begins panicking about going into labor so Miles calms her down by telling him a story about the origin of his name.

Once the elevator is up and running again, she thanks them and walks off.

Shortly after, Miles gets a friend suggestion for a deceased man named Sal. Unsure of how he’s supposed to help a dead man, he reaches out to Cara and Rakesh.

At his estate sale, Miles points out a desk that's similar to the one Miles' father has at the church.

Inside, they find an envelope addressed to Alfie, the stepson of Sal.

The estate manager reveals that Alfie didn't want anything from his estranged stepfather, but seeing as Sal left him something, they seek out to locate him.

It doesn’t take long before they spot his ad on a bus stop and track him down to a courtroom.

Alfie is obviously a little freaked out by two people approaching him telling him that "God" sent them.

He informs them that he doesn't want anything to do with his stepdad nor does the picture or the written "Matthew 6:21" mean anything.

Cara suggests going back to where the photo was taken to get more clues and it proves to be beneficial. They realize that Matthew isn't a bible scripture, it's actually the name of Sal's boat.

Similarly, 6:21 isn't a verse but a code that unlocks the safety deposit box and reveals a book Sal wrote for Alfie about all the things he wishes he would have said to him.

Upon learning this, Alfie rushes off.

Miles and company look into Alfie and realize he was a top paralegal in the city before quitting his job six months ago.

They track down his former assistant who tells them she believes it was caused by a messy heartbreak.

Rakesh looks into the woman's address where he kept sending flowers and when they knock on the door, pregnant Blair opens.

She tells them that Archie didn’t believe he’d be a good father because of how Sal raised him so he split when things got too intense.

When she goes into labor, Cara stays with her while Miles runs off to convince Alfie to give fatherhood another shot.

Eventually, Alfie comes around and arrives at the hospital shortly after the baby is born.

Blair agrees to give him another chance at being in the baby’s life, and he reads the baby Sal’s children’s book.

Miles and Nia hang out for their project and she reveals that she beat leukemia after being diagnosed shortly after her 13th birthday.

She tells Miles she doesn't credit God but science which is right up his alley.

After Cara tells Miles that she's officially back together with Eli, Miles invites Nia to watch his father perform the sax for the first time since his mother passed.

Despite being a little rusty, Tish and Ali are able to convince Arthur to get back in the saddle and perform for friends and family.

Cara and Eli join, but when she sees Miles being flirty with Nia, she becomes a little jealous.

Meanwhile, Rakesh and Lucy have teamed up to find the master coder behind the God account.

They try to lure Falken out with part of his code but are disappointed when he fails to show up.

That is until he sends them a picture of them waiting at the park for him to prove he was there the whole time.

God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 8 Quotes

When you grow up thinking a parent didn't love you, it kind of becomes a part of who you are. I used the pain just like Alfie did to motivate myself, prove myself.

Cara

Miles: They send me a friend suggestion when I'm talking about them, they're probably listening to us right now.
Nia: Yeah, it's 2018. Our phones are listening to all of us.
