Grover heads off to Chicago to try to get a confession from his ex-friend Clay Maxwell. Grover has suspected that Clay pushed his wife off a cliff during a hike in Hawaii. Grover has never had any proof that is was anything more than a tragic accident. It seems his only option to send Clay to prison is to either get a confession from him or to find something else to get him on. Grover remembers a stash house raid several years before, where there were 2 bags filled with about 250k each bag, in sequenchial bills and about half of it was missing. Clay would have had the opportunity to steal it. So after breaking into Clays house and assaulting him, trying to get the confession out of him, he decides to look for the money. After bashing in some walls he finds it in the garage, sealed in an old rusty car. Clay tries to bargain with Grover by giving him some of the money, but Grover will not have it. He calls the Chicago police to come to the home.
Elsewhere Kono, Chin, Steve and Danny have finished surfing. Steve tells them that their usual route back to headquarters in backed up. They have a disagreement on which alternate route to take. So they make a wager with Kono and Chin taking the unbeaten path through coffee plantations and Steve and Danny taking a different highway. Whoever gets there last, owes the other one wings and drinks. Steve and Danny get there first, but their victory is short lived when Steve becomes worried about Chin and Kono. They haven't shown up yet, and aren't answering their phones. After going setting out to find them, they arrive to save them just in the knick of time. They were about to be killed by two cop killing brothers.
