Major Crimes Season 5 Episode 11 involves a major conspiracy. During Dwight Darnell's trial, Dwight attempts to question Dr. Joe and make an argument that the people he killed don't count because they were minorities. After the judge refuses to allow this, Darnell suddenly shoots up the courtroom with a gun taken from the evidence room. Chief Taylor and DDA Rosen are murdered and Dr. Joe is in critical condition. Sharon shoots and kills Dwight Darnell.

Realizing there had to have been a conspiracy, Sharon quickly makes the decision to keep Dr. Joe's continued existence secret and allow the killers to get away with thinking he is dead. This hits Rusty hard. He wants to help find whoever shot Dr. Joe and he is upset about not being allowed to see him in the hospital because of the ruse.. Provenza encourages him to stay strong for his mother, while Sharon reassures him that Dr. Joe will live. Meanwhile, Sharon struggles with guilt when she realizes she doesn't feel bad about killing Dwight and his mother then accosts her.

It is a sad day for MCU as they realize police are involved in the conspiracy. Meanwhile, Buzz gets a break in the case of his father and uncle's murders.
