On New Girl Season 5 Episode 12, Schmidt is ready to plan the wedding with Cece, but she's offered a promising job and isn't able to help out. Jess decides to offer her services and Schmidt reluctantly agrees to let her help. Schmidt tells Jess they'll have to split up to get everything finished and sends Jess on her way, but makes he wear a camera helmet so he can supervise everything. 

Jess heads out on a few errands, but Schmidt isn't able to make up his mind about things and he is also starting to get exhausted as the day continues. Jess finally gets fed up and comes up with a plan to get Schmidt to relax and fall asleep so she can get things done. After Schmidt falls asleep, Jess goes to a local vineyard listed on Schmidt's computer and becomes instantly attracted to the owner, Gavin, and ends up making out with him.

Jess gets back to the apartment and informs Schmidt of her time with Gavin, and even mentions she made out with him, but Schmidt quickly reveals Gavin is actually his father. Schmidt is instantly repulsed by the idea of Jess and his father hooking up and it only gets worse when Gavin shows up at the apartment. Jess invites him in, but Schmidt refuses to see him. After Gavin finds out Jess is friends with Schmidt he apologizes for the things he did to Schmidt. Schmidt accepts his apology and ends up inviting him to the wedding.

Meanwhile, Winston and Nick get into a fight over who has the better job. Nick, after going on a ride along with Winston, quickly realizes Winston has the tougher job and apologizes.
