Recap

Ben leaps into a public defender whose client, Tyler Hamlin, is being charged with disorderly conduct, exposure of a person, and grand larceny. Ben’s host is a woman wearing heels which give him some trouble to begin with.

Because he doesn’t know his client has former convictions, the judge believes he’s being deliberately misled and sets the bail at $50k.

Ben leaves the courtroom quickly and is called back when someone addresses him as “Ms. Ramirez” and points out he’s left his rolling suitcase behind. The helpful man, Saul Becker, also advises he go private and get out while he can.

Addison arrives and Ben informs her that Martinez was on the USS Montana at the end of his last leap.

Addison notices the rolling suitcase is full of case files. She discovers his host, Aleda Ramirez, is a public defender in Queens, New York, 1985, with 183 open cases.

As they’re heading to Ben’s next court appointment, a biker named Stuart Johnson runs up and asks him to help get his bike back. Addison identifies him as a defendant with unpaid parking tickets.

He wants to help Stuart but Addison says the murder case that starts in twenty minutes is why he’s here so he puts Stuart off until that case is done. Stuart accepts that, grateful for any help he can get.

Ben sits down with Camilo who is willing to take the deal that has been negotiated down from a thirty year sentence to ten years.

Ziggy says Ben needs to prove Camilo innocent. Camilo is eighteen and the sole caregiver of his younger brother, Leo, and their grandmother, Layla.

Camilo is on trial for killing a gang member, Nathan, who was pushing Leo to join. If he takes the deal and goes to prison, Leo ends up joining and getting shot dead before the ten years are up.

Ben tells Camilo they will not take the deal and will fight the charges in court. Camilo was in the building when Nathan was shot and there are no other suspects.

At HQ, Ian fills Magic and Jenn in on the anomalies that occurred in the quantum code both times they encountered Martinez. They’ve reconfigured Ziggy to alert them the next time Leaper X and Ben cross paths.

Addison arrives and Magic informs her the DA in Queens is digging up Camilo Diaz’s file. Addison suggests in the meanwhile they send Jenn into the chamber to assist Ben because she knows the legal system.

Jenn is resistant, despite the fact she has a law degree. Magic orders her into the chamber.

Ben doesn’t recognize Jenn when she holograms in. Addison also joins them when it’s clear he doesn’t remember Jenn. Addison explains the plan.

Jenn coaches Ben on how to get some time to prove Camilo innocent. The judge isn’t eager to play along. She announces the trial will begin at 2pm.

Leo and Layla are in the courtroom and worried about Ben taking the case to trial. The prosecutor, ADA Barnes, is angry they didn’t take the deal and promises to put Camilo away for life.

ADA David brings Ben a file box of evidence he’ll have to get through before the trial begins. Becker meets up with him in the hallway and points out that he’ll never get through the files before the case begins.

Jenn reassures him that Magic’s getting the same files from the Queens DA and Ziggy will comb through them for clues faster than any team of humans could.

Ben doesn’t have a chance to start looking at the files because he’s due in court in five minutes. Jenn keeps him moving.

Magic and Ian look over the facts of the case. Magic asks Ian to keep an eye on Addison since this is the first mission where she isn’t Ben’s primary.

ADA Davis finds Ben in a corridor, hiding from Biker Stuart, and expresses her annoyance that he didn’t tell her about fighting Camilo’s charges before kissing him.

Davis reminds him she’s been hiding their relationship from the DA’s office for three years and she’s close to making first chair. She wishes him luck.

In court, the prosecution proves Camilo was in the building and that he knew someone had been shot.

Ziggy discovers a missing page in the discovery files and Ben tracks down Becker to ask if he thinks it means something. Becker recommends he ask for the missing page. If they don’t turn it over, ADA Barnes is hiding something.

Jenn stops Ben because Tyler needs help with his bail. Using Ziggy’s database, she gives Ben a winning race bet to help raise the money.

Davis finds Ben to tell him Leo’s been arrested.

Ben bails Leo out. He begs Leo to give him a day to prove Camilo’s innocence and get him home. Leo tells him Camilo should’ve just killed Nathan then the gang would’ve left them all alone because Nathan was a snitch.

At HQ, Ian gets the missing second page and uncovers a redacted name: Edwin Soto.

Jenn fills Ben in on Soto who is a very good suspect for the killing.

Ben arrives home to Davis who ordered in Chinese for their anniversary dinner. She states they need to draw a line until after the trial to avoid conflict of interest.

He tries to ask about Soto but Davis reminds him they don’t talk work in the apartment. Just then, the phone rings and Davis goes to talk to Barnes.

Jenn encourages Ben to look at Davis’s files while she’s on the phone, but Ben balks.

Davis comes back and Ben asks her point-blank about Soto. She accuses him of looking at her files but insists she didn’t hide anything. Ben deduces that Barnes told her to leave out the missing page and she didn’t ask why. She leaves to stay in a hotel. Before she goes, she gives him an anniversary gift.

As he arrives at the courthouse, he finds Stuart sleeping on the front steps. Stuart begs him to help get his bike back so he can take part in a charity ride for AIDS to honor his uncle who passed.

Ben meets with Camilo who is frantic that Leo stays clean and away from the drug dealing crowd.

Ben shows Camilo a picture of Edwin Soto and he identifies him as a guy who was around the building when Nathan was killed.

Ben reports a Brady violation to get Barnes to turn over the missing page. Barnes informs him Davis has been fired from the DA’s office and gives him the missing page but Edwin Soto’s name has been deleted.

Ben has Jenn look into Davis’s path now that Barnes has fired her. She never practices law again and moves back to Kentucky.

Jenn gives Ben a pep talk with a story about drowning bunnies. Vicky shows up and asks if it was worth it. Ben points out that Barnes deleted Soto’s name and shows her the page.

Ian uses Ziggy to discover a news piece about a gun Soto used in his previous murders being found in the basement of the building eleven years down the road.

Tyler and his girlfriend find Ben and ask for another racing tip to make more money. He tells Tyler to show up for his court date so he can get his bail money back.

Ben finds Biker Stuart to tell him he got his bike back but needs a ride across town.

They search the basement and Stuart helps find the gun.

As they wait for the ballistics report to come back, Jenn reminds Ben he needs to give Leo a talk.

Barnes shows up and offers another deal and tells Ben to present it to Camilo.

Jenn informs Ben that if Camilo takes this deal, Leo still lives, and Ben can leap away. Ben asks what happens if they don’t take the deal. Ziggy says it’s a 50/50 chance that Camilo goes away for life.

Camilo is tempted but the idea of Leo working the corner for the gang makes him decide to fight.

Ben is rehearsing his defense argument in the washroom when Davis walks in. She apologizes for being blind to Barnes’s corruptness and apologizes. She gives him the anniversary gift he never opened. It’s a brooch designed to look like Lady Justice. She pins it on him and offers some words of advice.

Ben delivers his defense. Both Addison and Davis are in the gallery. Davis comes to tell Ben the jury has a verdict. Ben tells her he’s sorry she lost her job. She tells him that she found eight other cases where Barnes withheld exculpatory evidence and took it to the DA so Barnes will be fired as well.

As Ben steps back into the courtroom, he leaps.

At HQ, Ziggy is searching for Ben again. Magic demands money from everyone because Ben remembered Magic first of any of the HQ team.

Jenn does the exposition on the leap. Camilo is found not guilty. Leo finishes school, goes to college, and becomes a lawyer. Barnes is fired and charged with corruption. Soto is found guilty for all three murders. Aleda and Davis join the Innocence Project.

Ben lands in a host being examined by a doctor. His wife is having him committed to an insane asylum, and the doctor is eager to begin treatments immediately.

Quantum Leap Season 1 Episode 15 Quotes

Addison: Jenn, you are the only person here that has experience in a courtroom.
Jenn: When I was on trial!

Addison: Ben needs you.
Jenn: Yeah, that’s not my job description. Besides, I’m terrible at all that emotional support and positive reinforcement stuff.
