Hollywood and Violet consider fostering more children.

Despite Nova’s best efforts to fight it, the school board bans all books referencing race or sexuality. A council member gives up and quits. Hollywood plans to run for the open seat.

Micah tells Zane that he never wants to be as shallow and greedy as he is. Micah decides to start his own art collective with the group at school.

Martin Henderson of Hayes Farm Fresh Foods arrives at the diner. He’s seen reviews of Vi’s Pies on TikTok and wanted to check it out for himself. They want Vi’s pies in their stores.

The Landrys are selling off pieces of their mill and doing construction on Betty’s land, Parker’s mother. Violet thinks Betty would help stop them if she knew what was happening. Violet and Hollywood decide to find Betty.

Mr. Randoph is fired from the bank for trying to help black farmers like Ralph Angel and Darla, whose loan application has been rejected. Randolph knew this was coming, so he’s been making copies of the files that prove the wrongdoing. Including proof that black farmers’ loans and extension applications are ignored or turned down, while the Landrys have been given extensions and haven’t paid on loans in 18 months for bribes.

Randolph says the Landrys are in far more debt and are more desperate than anyone realizes. Ralph Angel and Darla decide to investigate.

Darla tells Nova that although Nova shared her story without asking permission, she understands why she wrote her book. Darla says the book brought to light things she’d hidden in the darkness for too long. But the book isn’t the end of Darla’s story. Darla will give Nova her permission to make the movie if it shows how Darla won in the end.
