There is blood on the beach, a tennis ball nearby. Kirby has been dragged along the beach, but she didn't die. Harper's expression is menacing. He follows the ambulance to the hospital, where Rachel is arguing with the desk clerk. She wants to see her daughter.

Harper sits next to Rachel, and she pulls him out about it. He strikes up a conversation nonetheless.

Rachel just can't with the guy, and when she gets up to argue with the clerk some more, Harper takes off, hunting for his victim.

He finds her, asking her sleeping body how she got here before the nurse sends him from the room.

In the present, Kirby is making her rounds. Dan is in the conference room. He's disheveled, and he's making his case for all of the cases they've found being connected. Abby wants the survivor, but Dan says he doesn't need her. He'll do the legwork.

Kirby takes the photo Marcus found to Harper. Dan wants to know if she put Marcus up to join the meeting or if they don't even talk. Dan cannot try to link a present-day lost keychain to what was found in a murder victim 20 years previous.

He shuts Kirby out.

Marcus tells Kirby that since she couldn't go to the meeting, he went instead, thinking that one of them should have been there. He also offers to accompany her to pick up the Madrigal recordings.

A fellow reporter gave the retired detective the other victims' names, and now Dan has to scramble to get something in tomorrow's edition or risk being scooped.

Kirby and Marcus arrive at the expert's place to listen to the tapes. Harper is telling Julia that she's already with her when she arrives. Kirby and Marcus hear the echo, and Kirby knows it's not just water echo as the expert believes.

Harper breaks into the apartment he thinks is Kirby's. 2B. But it's not Kirby's, and he doesn't understand why things changed. He manhandles the old man living there but leaves him alive.

Marcus and Kirby talk, and she realizes that she had similar hangups years before her attack.

They go to the club where Rachel and her band played all the time. Kirby wants to find something on the wall. as she does, she recalls conversations from the past, when she was Sharon, a happy-go-lucky girl with blonde hair. On the wall is written Sharon's gone like the smoke.

Rachel teases Kirby about her job at the newspaper. While she's watching her mom, the phone rings. Kirby answers and the phone reveals what's going to happen next, and Kirby can't wrap her head around it.

Kirby never talked with anyone about the calls, which eventually just stopped. But Harper didn't stop; he just waited.

Dan pounds the pavement, getting as much information as he can about the murdered women.

After catching a quick break, Dan talks with Summer's "roommate." The police never sussed out that they were in a relationship. She said that Summer got quiet and distant before she was killed. She thought that Summer was seeing someone else, and didn't want to pry in case she pushed her away.

While looking through her box of memorabilia, Dan finds something. There was another piece, and it was left inside of another woman.

Kirby and Marcus arrive back at the paper. Dan is excited to show her what he's uncovered. Marcus doesn't seem as excited. They've got their connections. Harper was taking an item from each victim and then puts it inside of his next.

They take it to Abby, and Kirby decides to be the story.

Abby and Dan are striding down the pavement with Kirby in tow. She stops. She should talk with Jinny. This unfolds as Harper watches, and he jumps up to follow her, something he's been doing all her life.

When Jinny leans why Kirby is there, she buzzes her in. Harper watches from across the street.

Jinny says nothing like what Kirby is describing is happening to her. She doesn't understand how the keychain was found 20 years ago. And Jiny has to go. She's covering the midnight show.

Across the street, Jinny buys a new, red umbrella from a street vendor.

Kirby visits the laundromat again. It's under construction. She breaks in, where she discovers what's next. The matchbooks are on the table.

Harper is behind her and he's visibly upset. He doesn't recognize the Kirby he knows. They fight right through time, and Kirby lands outside of the Bee bar.
