Recap

It's 1987. Midge visits Joel in prison. She brings him her headshots, which he will use as currency. He tells her they're not sexy enough and asks for the USO shots. She shows him another picture -- little Rose (their granddaughter) on the kibbutz.

Joel tells Midge she shouldn't be here, but out there performing. She's selling wigs. Joel says Susie wouldn't like that. Joel tells Midge he enjoys looking out for her, and Midge remarks that that is what got him here.

In 1961, Joel and Archie are in a church, hoping to start a supper club there. Archie remarks on his previous bad experiences going to Catholic school with this particular Mother Superior.

Joel talks about what a great idea it is. He remembers how he doesn't like Frank and Nicky. After a discussion with Mother Superior, Joel flirts with the novice who serves them tea.

Maggie and Dinah work hard, making phone calls and dealing with many of Susie's clients (and plenty of potential clients).

Susie talks on the phone with Alfie, who has purchased a llama named Catherine.

Susie checks with Dinah and Maggie to find out if they've gotten hold of Helen Dyer yet, but they've had no success. Susie assures James (in her office) not to worry. James talks about how he wants this part badly. Maggie yells that she's "got her!"

Susie rushes over to Maggie's corner of the building (past all the potential clients) and gets on the phone with Helen, asking about the results of James's audition. Helen tells her that he's still in the running, but it's up to producer David Weston. Susie hangs up on Helen and returns to her office.

Miriam is there, asleep against the wall. Susie wakes her and gives her some coffee. James asks about Helen, and Susie relays the info about the producer. She tells James to go do some stand-up.

Susie wakes Midge up, and Midge checks the board, laments the fact that she's not the only "MM," and Susie sends her off to work.

Susie informs Dinah and Maggie that they have a new target -- David Weston.

Midge arrives at work. Adam presents her with two projects from Ethan's science fair. She chooses the earth-less solar system. Mel arrives, hungover, and tells them of a poorly attended gig he did the night before.

Mel tells Midge that a comic named Reuben stole Midge's garter belt joke. Alvin enters and tells them Gordon wants to talk about the as-yet-unwritten monologue.

The team convenes, discussing new directions. Tensions are high between Gordon and George because Gordon doesn't want to shill for a potential sponsor, Diddy-Doo diaper cream. Midge notes that she has used Diddy-Doo on her kids.

Gordon reminds George about their weed-killer sponsor that ended up killing people. George asks Gordon to attend a cruise put together by the Diddy-Doo team, but Gordon refuses, shutting George down, then asking to get back to the monologue. George apologizes.

Midge makes a joke, and George gives her a look.

Later, Midge visits George and apologizes for her joke. She suggests she be a pinch-hitter for Gordon on the boat -- she can make some diaper jokes for the Diddy-Doo people. George is amenable to the idea.

Shirley sews Zelda into her heirloom wedding dress, but it rips every time she moves. Rose finds her some earrings. Midge comes in with Rose and Abe's old wedding photo album.

Shirley, Rose, and Midge discuss "wedding nights," which makes Rose uncomfortable.

The living room has been converted to a small "chapel." Midge enters, saying the bride is coming. Abe plays the piano.

Zelda enters in her traditional wedding gown and joins Janusz and the priest in front of the small crowd of Rose, Moishe, Shirley, Joel, Midge, Ethan, and Esther. Abe keeps playing the piano, and Midge urges him to wrap it up.

The priest makes his welcoming statement (including the traditional call for objections), and then Zelda reads her vows. Janusz responds with his vows, which include the statement that Zelda will never have to work again.

Rose and Abe suddenly start fussing about the fact that it sounds like Zelda is quitting and leaving them. Moishe, Shirley, and Midge tell Rose and Abe to be quiet. Abe tells Midge that if this is true. Midge and Joel are losing their childcare.

Midge and Joel confer. Abe interrupts with an objection, more of a "request for clarification" about when Zelda will be quitting. Midge asks about childcare. Moishe shouts at them to be quiet.

Zelda's dress rips again. As the ceremony concludes and Zelda and Janusz are pronounced husband and wife, Shirley gets under Zelda's skirt to sew it.

On the fire escape, Midge brings Joel some vodka. They share a cigarette. Joel tells her they are going to buy the church for a supper club. Inside, Zelda angrily shows Rose and Abe how to vacuum.

Joel asks Midge about Frank and Nicky. Midge assures him he doesn't have to worry about them, but they are friends of Susie's. Joel insists he doesn't want her to be involved with them.

Midge argues. Things get heated, and Joel and Midge kiss. A fuse blows inside, and Zelda can be heard yelling at Abe. Midge looks at her watch and tells Joel she has to go tell jokes on a boat, and they agree to continue this later.

Susie returns to her office, having been searching fruitlessly for Weston. Dinah tells Susie she left 52 messages. Maggie calls over, informing them Weston has left for the day. Susie heads back out.

On the boat, Midge chats with a cocktail waitress, Nanette, who tells Midge she has seen her at the Wolford and thinks she's funny.

George chats with Midge and asks if she's ready. Midge takes the stage and hypes up Gordon Ford, telling a bunch of baby-centric and diaper-related jokes. The crowd is responsive, and she gets the thumbs up from Gordon.

Susie finds David Weston at a bathhouse. She introduces herself. He tells her to call his office during business hours. She tells him she has, nonstop, but he doesn't take her calls or call back.

Susie insists he gives her an answer. Weston says they're still debating. Susie says she'd prefer James not get it, and the movie script isn't great anyway.

Susie returns to her office. Dinah and Maggie are baffled at her tactics with Weston. Susie defends them and says now they just have to wait, and at least she signed a good cabaret singer.

George and Midge chat with some of Diddy-Doo's men. They suggest Midge be their spokesperson on the Gordon Ford show. They start talking about making motherhood sexy, and Midge leaves the conversation.

Midge heads to the lower deck and sees a man harassing Nanette. Midge steps in, calling the man out, and Nanette gets away, going back to work. Midge grabs the man's jacket, asking if he likes it when someone else touches something they don't want touched.

MIdge goes to put on the jacket, but it falls off the side of the boat into the water.

George watches as the Coast Guard takes Midge away in cuffs.

At 30 Rock, Susie arrives to find George, Midge, Mike, Alan (NBC legal), and Barbara (PR) assembled. Mike introduces Susie to them. Susie sits beside Midge and, between her teeth, asks what's going on.

Gordon Ford arrives, surprisingly okay with being called away from an animal rescue event. He looks at the wet Midge and asks what's going on. George tells him there was an incident on the boat and tells him what happened.

Midge explains she was saving the waitress from a man's harassment, but now the man is charging Midge with assault. Also, because the man had his wallet in the jacket, and they were technically on international waters, it was considered an act of piracy.

Gordon finds this hilarious, blames George, and tells Barbara she should have been on top of this. George asks if Midge is fired. Gordon tells him no.

Gordon tells Alan to get the charges dropped and tells Barbara to let the press run whatever they want -- it's publicity that he has a "pirate" on staff. Mike is delighted that George is so upset.

At Susie's office, Susie, James, and Dinah wait around the phone for Weston's call. James starts doing the scene to himself. David finally calls. Susie tells Dinah to tell him she'll call him back. Dinah heads back to her desk.

Susie asks James to do the scene for her. Susie imagines what people will say about her. She goes to buy a fancy suit.

Midge leaves her gig downtown and signs an autograph. Gordon Ford shows up and compliments her on her set. He asks her to dinner.

She takes him to The City Spoon diner, and Officer Paluzzo enters. Midge recognizes him and introduces him to Gordon. Paluzzo is amiable and recognizes Gordon from the television. Paluzzo gets his food and coffee, tells Midge to be good, and leaves.

Gordon asks how many times she's been arrested, but she doesn't tell. He pulls out a small flask and, obliging, spikes her drink and his own. Gordon talks about what their second date will be like, but Midge insists this is not a date. He says they could just sleep together or have a kiss.

Midge explains that they cannot have a thing because it would change everything for her -- she'd become "Gordon's girl," and it would ruin all the work she'd done to get where she has, and if she made it on the show, she would never know if she deserved it or not.

Gordon asks for a dance, at least. They dance.
