While Hayley reels from the loss of both her daughter and her mortality, Klaus grapples with the loss of Hope and his control over the city of New Orleans. He becomes a paranoid recluse afraid to venture out in fear that someone possesses the White Oak stake which can end his life.
Francesca Guerrera, leader of the werewolf faction, is afraid that Klaus or Elijah will attack her, so she too stays locked away inside her house with an army of werewolves by her side. Her secret weapon is a witch named Cassie. Little does she know that Cassie is actually Esther, the Original witch herself.
Davina has broken with her coven and is no longer practicing group magic. She spends her time with Mikael and Esther's spellbooks looking for a way to unlink her friends from Klaus' sire line so that she can unleash Mikael on his children.
Marcel and Cami have been carrying on as friends with benefits while Marcel deals with his exile from the city in a manner different from that of Klaus and Elijah. She goes to Klaus and Elijah to tell them that Marcel will work with them to rid the city of werewolves if only they will ask.
Together, Klaus, Elijah, Marcel, and Hayley overcome the werewolves in the city and take back the moonlight rings Genevieve made for them, returning Klaus' power during the full moon.
Sensing Hayley's struggle with her transition to become a hybrid, Klaus attempts to reassure her that they will one day rule the city again with their daughter by their side.
