Kai reveals that he took Elena to test out his newly reabsorbed magic on her. This is bad news for Elena as his experiments lead to her blacking out, getting stabbed, and melting her daylight ring off.

When Elena is able to break free for a minute, she calls Damon for help.

Over at the Salvatore mansion, Liv is teaching Jo how to use her newly regained magic. Jo isnt doing very well. Alaric gets mimosas. Damon and Liv head to the high school to rescue Elena, but Luke swoops in and stops them. He doesn't want Liv to be helping them, when the family is in a tense place. Liv changes Luke's mind about always obeying their father.

Jo is able to help Damon, but she isn't strong enough to keep Damon and Elena and herself cloaked. Luckily Jeremy and Alaric came to save the day. Elena and Damon reunite.

Meanwhile Caroline heads to Duke to meet with an oncologist who is the best at what her mother has. Stefan tags along to check on Sarah Salvatore. After an initially successful experiment, Caroline convinces Liz to drink her blood. She doesn't know that the experiment went bad after she left.
