Someone in a graveyard runs away from a supernatural creature.

John Winchester, after getting home from the military, is on a bus headed to Lawrence, Kansas. And with him is a letter addressed to him.

Dean narrates his parents' story and John and Mary meet after John bumps into her, and the rest is history.

John reunites with his mother, a mechanic.

John forged his dad's signature in order to enlist in the Army.

John has his first encounter with a supernatural creature and Mary comes to join the fight. She asks the demon where her father is, but the demon is as sassy as ever and she exorcises him.

John admits to Mary a stranger gave him a letter from his dad and it led him to that address, so Mary has him follow her.

Mary gives John the talk and tells him to use the key he has to open a door.

The two flick on the lights of a bunker, a Men of Letters bunker. John finds his dad's locker and sees a bunch of his belongings in it, including a photo of his parents and him as a baby.

Mary finds what her father was looking for, but no sign of her father.

Mary tells John that he doesn't want any part of this and to let the past stay in the past.

A demon possesses bookstore owner Ada Monroe and John reads Mary a newspaper article the following day about her going missing. The same Ada that Mary is looking for.

John and Mary check out a library, where Latika helps with with research. She wants to go to Texas with them but Mary has her stay behind to continue research.

John has flashbacks of his time in the military and hallucinates one of his Army buddies in the backseat that died. He thinks he's being haunted so Mary has him get out the EMF, proving that he's not being haunted.

They check out Ada's bookstore and they find a map with Samuel's handwriting. The demon from before has found a new host but luckily, she is hit by a van driven by Carlos and Latika.

Mary finds out that her dad has been searching for Men of Letters locations without her and alongside Ada.

They find coordinates leading to New Orleans written in Samuel's handwriting.

Mary tries to convince Latika to walk away from the hunting life before it's too late.

Mary admits that her cousin, Maggie, was also a hunter and got killed by a vampire. She wants out of this life. She doesn't know what she wants to do but she wants to live long enough to find out.

Mary and John go down a whole in the cemetary, where they believe her father was. They come face-to-face with a lugaroo and John takes out part of a silver necklace that was embedded in his skin that belonged to his army buddy.

Meanwhile, Ada, possessed, finds Latika, and knocks out Carlos. Mary gets back up to the surface and fights Ada as Carlos fights the lugaroo.

Latika opens a box that exorcises the demon and John takes out the lugaroo.

Back in Lawrence, Millie tells John that she wanted to keep him safe and John gives her his father's letter, explaining why he left. He tells his mom this is what he was born to do.

Mary, John, Latika, and Carlos meet up with Ada, who tells John about his father. All the Men of Letters she knew disappeared 15
years ago. As for Samuel, he was looking for something to kill a creature who hunt the Men of Letters, demons, take over the world.

The four head off to Savannah to do more research.
- Dean stands by Baby with John's journal and drives off, ready to continue telling the epic love story of his parents.
