Neal tells Mozzie that he knows who the mysterious chess player is - it’s Keller. Keller is a man that Neal has always been competitive with – even including his relationship with Kate.
Back at the station, Peter finds Neal researching the heist at the American Museum of Natural History. A guy named Campos just got released from prison.
Peter and Neal go to check out Neal’s hunch. On the way their, Peter almost gets hit by a drive by, but misses and another man gets hit. That dead man walking was Campos.
Peter asks Neal who the killer is and he tells him that it is Keller. The Franklin bottle of wine is what Keller is after. Peter questions the main sommelier and he gives them the broker name - Grace Quinn.
Neal goes to meet with Grace and ends up schmoozing his way into the wine cellar. Neal spies a post card with the same stamp on it. He opens the book and finds a clue to meet with Keller.
Peter calls and tells Neal that Keller is working for someone bigger like the Russian mob. It turns out that Keller is in a large amount of debt to them and by selling a fake bottle of wine, he will be able to pay back the money he owes.
When Neal and Keller finally meet, Keller eggs Neal on to practically stepping out of his ankle bracelet boundaries. Keller tells Neal that he wants to play the game with him again – this time he gives Neal a head start by giving him a replica of the wine bottle needed in forging the Franklin.
The next day, Neal tells Peter that this is the perfect way for them to trap Keller in trying to sell a fake. Neal enlists Mozzie’s help to replicate the Franklin bottle. It is a go until they reach a snag. They closed down new entries.
Neal convinces Peter this is the only way that they will capture Keller. They continue with their plan. At the auction, they do all the testing and it turns out that Keller’s bottle is real. Because of all the chaos, Keller’s bottle sells for triple the amount he would have originally gotten.
Neal realizes that Keller did this on purpose and grasps at straws to figure out how to arrest him. They get him on trespassing. Neal makes Mozzie bid on the bottle of wine – for one million dollars.
They go after Keller and catch him on the rooftop just before he leaves. Neal gets him to admit that he killed Campos and robbery and dealings with the mob.
Peter comes out and tells Keller that they are launching a full blown investigation on the robbery. He agrees to go with the FBI instead of going to meet with the Russian mob boss empty handed.
Mozzie informs Neal that there is a lot of chatter about the music box. That Neal should talk to Alex about it. Neal tells Mozzie that she won’t talk to him as long as he’s with the FBI. Mozzie advises Neal to make it worth it to her.
Peter: You met him playing backgammon?
Neal: It was simpler times.
