John is dressed and ready to lieave the hospital. Doctor doesn't think he's ready and threatens to have him restrained if he doesn't let him look at the sutures. Doctor looks at the sutures, gives John the news he wants him to swim with a rehab instructor twice a week and warns him to listen to his doctor this time. 

Kaycee picks up John who says he's fine, it just hurts to sit. Kaycee keeps driving over potholes. John wants to walk. He tells Kaycee he understands him now. When you know you're about to die you don't care about tomorrow, but when you get a repreive you have to face what you've done as well as figure out how to keep living. Kaycee doesn't know how to do that. John says they will figure it out together.

Beth makes a land deal. She wants to buy the land based on a photo. The man in her office wants to tell her about some other land that is not on the market. Beth is not interested if it's not for sale. Beth kicks him out of her office and wants him to email her the offer so she won't have to see him again.

It's Monica's first day at work. She gets into it with a kid named Trent who makes a reference to Pron Hub, telling him she has power and he doesn't. The Dean comes in as she reads from Columbus' journal, about how Native Americans were to be used as slaves. She asks Trent if he ever feels like making someone do what he wants. She talks about the European outlook and mentality of white supremacy and power. Afterwards, the Dean takes her aside and said she did well. They are interrupted by Trent who apologizes. She tells him not to insult anyone again or he's out. The Dean tells her she can get physical therapy and she can live in university housing n ow that she is teaching here.

Beth goes to see the owner of Pelican Ranch and informs him the bird he saw on his ranch was not a pelican, it was a decoy to scare away the other birds. He says his ranch is not for sale. Beth tells him to name a price and he says 9 million. She pays him and tells him to get out of her house.

Walker bullies Jimmy while they are working. Rip tells him he's a day worker and should not be out here. He Rip sends Jimmy to wrap wire. Walker too but Walker isn't working. Rip and Walker start to fight. The other cowboys worry about taking sides. A cowoy sticks a gun in Walker's back. Walker says he's leaving tonight, shoot him in the back if you want. He goes and Rip says he did this on purpose so everyone would see.

Walker packs up and gets ready to go, ignoring the advice to stay out of trouble. Walker runs into John and Kaycee who are coming back and says he quit. Kaycee promises him the other night won't happen again. Walker says he doesn't know who runs this place. John tells him that he and Kaycee do, don't listen to anyone else, and sends him back to the bunkhouse.

John has Kaycee sign some papers. He gives him Lee's badge. He wants to get the bunkhouse figured out before he trains him, and mentions that Kaycee doesn't talk about Monica and Tate. Kaycee admits he misses them, but Monica left because of John. 

Rip goes up to the bunkhouse to fight with Walker but Kaycee grabs him and tells him John wants him right now.

John says Rip is the only guy who he can trust because he doesn't get any benefit out of John being gone. John says he's asking him the hardest thing he's asked. Kaycee needs to learn how to run this place and can't do that while he's living with them.

Kaycee moves into Rip's place.

The guys watch football in the bunkhouse. Rip comes back with his stuff. Everyone quiets down except Walker plays a guitar. Jimmy ribs Colby about his mom being a cougar. Walker says he feels like he stumbled into another prison.

John tells Kaycee to push things to a head. Kaycee doesn't think Rip will listen to him. John says it's about everyone else's respect.

Kaycee gives his orders . Rip riding drag with Lloyd. Rip says it's a reminder they're just tools.

While working, Rip chases Walker on his horse and purposely knocks him off his. Kaycee confronts Rip who says he's not taking it easy on him either and goes. Walker is okay but says it only takes one man to ruin your whole life.

Kaycee and Rip fight while everyone watches. Rip is pummeling Kaycee. John says this needs to happen.

Kaycee wins the fight despite his hair being all in his eyes. Kaycee tells him no fighting, you want to fight, fight me.

John thanks Rip for making Kaycee earn it and tells Rip that he and Kaycee have to get along. Rip doesn't see any proof that Kaycee is dependable.

Beth comes to dinner and sees Kaycee's bruises. John forbids talking about work at the dinner table. Beth gets mad and says she'll talk about what she wants and goes. Kaycee reminds John he has physical therapy tomorrow.

Beth talks to Rip. She used to be jealous of him, afraid her father would love him more. Rip says they're his family whether they want to admit it or not.

Monica has dinner with Tate who asks what she is looking at as she works. She shows him a floor plan for a townhouse. Her father asks where they are moving. Monica sends Tate away and says she is moving to university housing. It will be closer to Kaycee. Father says she has to think about what she's doing. Remember they were married in ceremony, so that means they're married in the afterlife.

Beth confronts Kaycee about Rip. She says Rip is just what John turned him into and Kaycee is proving Monica right by letting John do the same thing to him.

John refuses to listen to his physical therapist and swims the regular way. He almost swims right into Monica, who is also getting physical therapy. Tate calls to Kaycee, who stands frozen. Kaycee and Monica stare at each other as we fade to black.
