Eric Christian Olsen Promoted to Series Regular on NCIS: Los Angeles

Eric Christian Olsen, who guest starred twice this spring in NCIS: Los Angeles' first season, has earned a promotion: He'll have series regular status in Season Two.

Speculation that Olsen might have a longer future than just one guest stint began immediately after his first appearance in the April 6 episode, “Hand to Hand.”

He played an LAPD undercover officer, Marty Deeks, who posed as an MMA fighter and sparred (literally and otherwise) with LL Cool J’s Sam Hanna, also undercover.

Olsen’s character made an encore appearance weeks later in the episode “Fame,” further signaling that producers had a long-range plan to bring him on board.

As predicted, Eric Christian Olsen has joined a bad ass NCIS: Los Angeles cast.

His path follows the one taken by Cote de Pablo’s character on the original NCIS. Ziva was brought on as an NCIS liaison before ultimately joining Gibbs’ team.

In LA's case, there's also an opening following the death of Dom Valie, the agent abducted, the "Found" but tragically killed in the season's signature story line.

NCIS: Los Angeles returns with two-hour premiere Tuesday, September 21.
