Bones Round Table: Brennan's on Twitter!

We're back for another TV Fanatic Round Table! On Bones Season 10 Episode 12, the team investigates the murder of a teacher, and Brennan joins Twitter!

TV Fanatic writers Christine Orlando, Mary Kate Venedam, and Ashley Bissette Sumerel are joined by Bridget Liszewski of The TV Junkies for a discussion of "The Teacher in the Books."

Why do you think the writers decided to have Brennan join Twitter?

Bridget: It's always fun to see Brennan put in situations that she doesn't excel at. Twitter was obviously one of those things, and it's also funny when she has to ask those she deems to be "lesser than" herself for help. This was a really funny situation, and Emily Deschanel seemed to have a lot of fun playing it all out. It's nice that even after all these years they can find stories like this to throw Brennan into and watch her learn to swim and eventually excel at.

Christine: Is there an official Dr. Temperance Brennan Twitter address? (Richard Castle has one on Castle!) If not, there should be. Many authors and writers have Twitter accounts and her publisher encouraging her to have one seemed fairly realistic. And as Bridget says, Brennan as the fish out of water is always fun. Add her competitive streak to that and it was destined to be fun.

Mary Kate: As everyone has touched on, it's always entertaining to see Brennan try these new things. Considering how involved the cast and the writers are on Twitter, it seems appropriate that they would make that a story for Brennan.

Ashley: I totally agree that getting Brennan out of her comfort zone is the main purpose – and it's really fun to watch. I also appreciated that she was willing to learn from others and have a good time with it. The selfies were the best. To Christine's, question, yes! There is! And it's hilarious. For anyone who hasn't seen this yet, you should definitely follow @DrBrennan on Twitter.

Were you surprised by Angela's reaction to Brennan's new obsession with social media?

Bridget: Not really. Angela just proved once again why she holds the title of Brennan's BFF. She knows her better than almost anyone and was able to see that Brennan was getting a little TOO into Twitter. Angela often is the voice of reason, not just for Brennan, but for the whole team, and she once again played that role here.

Christine: A little but she knows how competitive her friend can become and that her work at the Jeffersonian is her priority. She just didn’t want to see her get taken off track by something as addictive but unimportant as Twitter.

Mary Kate: Not really. Like Bridget said, Angela knows Brennan well, so it makes sense that Angela would know how competitive Brennan would get and how she would obsessed she would get with this new technology to her.

Ashley: I was a little surprised, just because I thought Angela would enjoy seeing Brennan trying something new. But, it can be way too addictive, and I was glad that Angela knew how that could affect Brennan and her competitive nature.

What did you think of the scene with Aubrey and Booth talking about Brennan's books?

Bridget: I enjoy Booth and Aubrey scenes and think they are getting closer and closer with each episode. Aubrey doesn't know a lot of the history between Booth and Brennan, so it was a good way for him to ask a bit about that without having to directly ask about Booth and Dr. B. He could do it in a roundabout way by asking about the characters in the book.

Christine: Oh, I thought that was great. I love Aubrey, and I like it when he can needle Booth a bit and get away with it. Plus, it’s good to remember just how long it took for Booth and Brennan to finally get together. Fans endured a lot to get here!

Mary Kate: I loved it. It was so funny to see someone semi-new to the Bones group react to Booth's character and involvement within the story. It was also funny to see Aubrey give his two cents on basically what was the long road of Booth and Brennan's relationship.

Ashley: I agree! It was a fun scene, and a nice way to remind us of how their story unfolded by bringing in Aubrey. Actually, I think that's something really beneficial about having a new character like this – we get to see the characters we've known so long through new eyes.

Did you have a favorite quote or scene from "The Teacher in the Books"?

Bridget: I loved Caroline, and she had two favorite quotes for me. One would be how she gets all tingly around Seeley Booth. The other quote I loved was when she told Booth, “You’re a good man Seeley Booth. You sure you don’t want to dump that beautiful doctor you got and run away with me?” You and me both Caroline, you and me both!

Christine:

Brennan: Oh my God!
Booth: What? Did you get bitten?
Brennan: No, it's my book! It's in the clearance section.

Ouch! That’s got to hurt.

Mary Kate: I love whenever Caroline joins a case because she is always fun to watch. The scene with Aubrey and Booth was also fun because it was a throwback to earlier seasons when Booth and Brennan were still will they/won't they.

Ashley: I think my favorite quotes are the ones when Brennan talks about selfies:

Too bad it would jeopardize the case, or I'd selfie with a skull.

Brennan

Name one thing you'd like to see happen in the remainder of the season.

Bridget: These first two episodes back have been pretty light hearted. I'd like to see things get more serious and throw some problems into the mix for Booth and Brennan.

Christine: I’m expecting a serious serial killer story to pop up soon. Also, is there going to be another Booth/Brennan baby in the future? That could make things interesting.

Mary Kate: I would really love some more stories for Angela and Hodgins and their family. We've seen plenty of Booth and Brennan, but I would love to see more of Angela and Hodgins relationship again. I'm also looking forward to the new Brennan/Booth pregnancy storyline, that should be interesting.

Ashley: I agree with Bridget on a more serious story, and with Christine on a serial killer. Mostly I want to see us break away from the standard case by case structure and get into something deeper.

What did you think about "The Teacher in the Books"? Did you have a favorite quote or soon, and what do you hope to see happen for the rest of the season? We'd love to hear your thoughts, so share them below!
