Are you still surprised to learn Sara Ramirez is leaving Grey's Anatomy?
It wasn't a long-term plan, and her co-stars and even Shonda Rhimes are all still catching up with the news, as well.
Earlier today, Jessica Capshaw (Arizona) joined in the well-wishers on Twitter to send her long-time co-star and former on-screen love her best wishes.
"Congrats on 10 incredible years! I wish @SaraRamirez the very best & I celebrate what Callie has given to all of us," Capshaw Tweeted.
Ramirez had decided to take some time off after ten years on Grey's Anatomy.
In her latest storyline, she and Capshaw found their characters, Callie and Arizona, at odds over custody of their daughter.
Unlike some of the actors on set who found situations such as those to be less than harmonic, these two pros obviously put their acting chops to good use and remained friends well after the director yelled, "Cut!"
The director, in one case at least, was Kevin McKidd, none other than Owen, who directed the two in Grey's Anatomy Season 12 Episode 22 and had nothing but praise for the two, especially their courtroom scenes.
In case you're interested, E! Online shared this weekend that this not the intended exit for Callie at all.
Her exit came sort of off the cuff, since Ramirez's exit was somewhat of a surprise.
The ending was definitely shot with her going to New York, but that was certainly not to be her swan song.
But at the Vulture Festival in New York on Sunday, Shonda Rhimes said it all worked out for the best.
Ramirez really wanted to take a break, and the shoot was already finished, and to help out an actor she loved, she considered it a gift to have gone so well.
Rhimes also took the time to remind people not to be stunned when long-time players from Grey's are lost. After all, most shows run around four seasons.
That's a long time to work in one place and continue with the same characters, especially when an actor takes the part young and wants to branch out.
Keep your fingers crossed Ellen Pompeo wants to stick around, because Rhimes is sticking with her.
How long will Grey's go on? As long as Pompeo wants to do it. "Our pact is that we will go together. When she goes, I go."
Don't forget, you can watch Grey's Anatomy online all summer long to get your fix!
