Grey's Anatomy: Patrick Dempsey Reveals He Helped Kill McDreamy

It wasn't only Shonda Rhimes' fault!
In a new interview with People, Patrick Dempsey falls on the knife, revealing he and Rhimes worked together to kill off his beloved Grey's Anatomy character, Derek Shepherd.
He admits working on Grey's took a toll on his family, and he and Shonda Rhimes sat down together and it was a mutual decision to kill off his beloved character.
"There were a lot of things coming to a head. After a certain period of time, no matter how much money you make, you want control over your own schedule," Dempsey said.
"And I was definitely ready to move on. We were both ready. I stayed a bit longer than I should have," he said.
At the time, Dempsey was struggling with his marriage and separated from his wife.
"It's scary. It's destabilizing to know you're potentially breaking up your family or that a big section of your life is ending," Dempsey told People.
He wasn't ready to give up on his wife, nor she him.
The extra time seemed to help them find their way back together, and it was needed for "lots of sex," he laughed.
"I'm very grateful for Grey's Anatomy," Dempsey told People exclusively in this week's issue. "It's given me the opportunity to do everything."
"But at the same time, there was a cost."
Dempsey's marriage is saved and he's starring in the latest Bridget Jones movie with Rene Zelwegger and Colin Firth, which filmed in England.
Dempsey really enjoyed filming his role, mainly because of the rainy weather.
He said, "I was probably the only person in London enjoying the weather."
