Scream Queens Round Table: Introducing The Green Meanie

at .

With the premiere of Scream Queens Season 2 Episode 1, it was like no time has passed at all. We were thrown right back into the crazy, campy, over-the-top world of the Chanels and their assorted friends, frenemies, and would-be murderers.

The first installment of the new season found the Chanels adjusting to life post-imprisonment at the insane asylum. After struggling to make ends meet, they found themselves swooped up by former Dean Cathy Munsch to work at her hospital, helping to cure supposedly incurable patients alongside Scream Queens Season 1's Zayday Williams, and new faces including Drs. Brock Holt and Cassidy Cascade.

Naturally, since this is Scream Queens, there's a new mystery killer to contend with – the Green Meanie. And he or she already has it out for the Chanels.

Join TV Fanatics Yana, Jenn, Paul, and Jay as they discuss the returns of some of our favorite characters, whether they enjoyed the new faces, and if the introduction of the brand new mystery was done well.

What do you think of the new killer (the Green Meanie) and the new murder mystery? Any preliminary guesses for who it is or what their motive is?

Yana: Would it be too obvious for this to be a big baby/parent plot again? Scream Queens thrives on being obvious and that's really where my head went at first. I'm interested in the Green Meanie, and not just because of his cool name. I would love to see more of the killer though. The premiere last season had two episodes back to back so we could learn more about the villain but with only one episode for the premiere this season, that aspect definitely lacked.

Jenn: I like the Green Meanie. I agree with Yana, with only one episode in, it's hard to guess. I would like to think it's the baby or mom. Kirstie Alley's character Ingrid Hoffell may have something to do with it.

Paul: I liked the new killer, but I don't know if I liked the parallels to Scream Queens Season 1. It seems a little obvious that it's going to be linked to the baby.

Jay: I mean, there's a 90% chance it's the son of the man who died. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was the mother, who is actually Kirstie Alley's character. I hate her, so she's the perfect serial killer. #BringBackHester

Was there anyone from the first season who didn't appear that you miss? Or are you OK with all of the returnees?

Yana: Chad Radwell. I know he's coming back, but I need him back now! I do wish Hester wasn't coming back, she was my least favorite part last season. And will Denise be back in a bigger role? Because that small appearance was not enough at all!

Jenn: I actually like Hester and can't wait to see her. I can't wait for Denise to come back as well, she needs to have a bigger role! But, all in all, I liked the returnees. You can't have it all in the first episode.

Paul: Everyone I like showed up, so I was fine with the people we got to see.

Jay: I'm okay with everyone who's returned. I expect Hester to come back shortly, but I would like some explanation for what happened to Grace. She just disappeared. Also, we all need more Denise. Always.

What was your favorite moment or favorite Chanel Oberlin one-liner?

Yana: ''Sign it, Sasquatch.''

Jenn: "We were poor and exhausted."

Paul: My favorite moment was #5 going crazy when the phones were ringing in the dental office.

Jay: Probably Chanel stripping down when John Stamos was in the shower (same, girl) or when she called the werewolf girl "Chewbacca." She's a terrible person, I love it.

There were tons of parallels with the very first episode of the series. Was this premiere better or worse than the Scream Queens Season 1 Premiere?

Yana: As I said before, there was more to experience last year because we got a two-hour premiere. But season two so far has held it's own. With the very reminiscent flashbacks that use the same humor in a different direction, the characters that reappeared better than ever, and all the new dynamics hold their own. I'm excited for this new season, but if I could have more of something, I'd ask for more of the Green Meanie.

Jenn: I think the Scream Queens Season 1 Premiere was better. I liked the opening of what happened in the sorority house better than this murder mystery. The Season 2 premiere gave me Halloween (the movie) vibes. I agree that Season 1 gave us more punch with two big episodes. Still not sure how this season will do vs last year.

Paul: This premiere did not pack as much of a punch as the series opener. The opening scene to the first season was pretty iconic, but this year's was not that great. Everything after the opening scene was great, but the new hospital setting will take some time to gel.

Jay: Worse. I miss rich, total bitch Chanel.

Who was your favorite new character?

Yana: Chamberlain Jackson.

Jenn: Ingrid Hoffell.

Paul: Chamberlain Jackson.

Jay: Can I say none of them? I'm really watching for the Chanels only, and I'm not sure how I feel about this season yet. This premiere episode was very slow, and didn't have the same charm or flare of Season 1. I'm hoping it picks up.
