24: Legacy: Carlos Bernard Reprising Role As Tony Almeida

at .

Tony Almeida will be part of 24: Legacy.

Carlos Bernard has signed up to appear on the rebooted series, but he won't be a series regular.

He will appear on a recurring capacity.

If you recall, Tony Almeida was last seen being carted off to jail at the conclusion of 24 Season 7.

The character evolved a lot throughout the original series.

He was apparently killed off on 24 Season 5, but somehow managed to return as a villain.

It changed the dynamics for his character, but his appearance on the new iteration of the hit series will probably find him getting a reprieve from jail.

Either that, or he has intel on the newest terrorist to stalk the Counter Terrorist Unit.

Tony Almeida is one of the most indelible personalities in the 24 universe, at times loyal and loving, other times an utterly amoral, ruthless mercenary,” said Legacy‘s co-showrunners Manny Coto and Evan Katz in a statement.

“Carlos Bernard has done an amazing job portraying this dark and conflicted character, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with his return to the show.”

Bernard marks the first character from the original series to crossover to the new version.

That probably increases the odds of Kiefer Sutherland eventually appearing as Jack Bauer.

That said, the powers that be will want their version of the show to do well without the need for some stunt casting.

Additionally, Sutherland has his hands full with ABC's Designated Survivor

That show is shaping up to be a solid addition to ABC's Fall roster.

What do you think about Bernard's casting on 24: Legacy?
