Shades of Blue Round Table: Did Tess Turn Rat?

at .

Agent Stahl blew our minds when he put a bullet in LInkatter’s head on Shades of Blue Season 2 Episode 3!

Our TV Fanatics Stacy Glanzman, Jasmine Petersen and Christine Orlando are here to debate why Woz picked Loman, If Tess ratted out her team, and whether Cristina needs the bubble wrap taken off after “Ghost Hunt.”

Do you think Woz really hand picked Loman for his team, and if so, why?

Stacy: Yeah, I think he picked someone who would be a good fit for his crew and that he could trust. They are a pretty tight knit group, so it makes sense that he would carefully vet anyone he let join. But, I think that's all it is. I don't believe he picked him to be the fall guy.

Jasmine: I do. It seems like something he would do. I think he specifically chooses people whom he feels he can trust, and he seems to be drawn to people who have a rough past.

I agree with Stacy, I think he chose Loman because he feels like the kid is loyal and trustworthy, maybe even because he wants someone more on the straight and narrow to keep them honest to a degree. I don't believe he was picked to be a patsy.

Christine: I’m sure he picked him, I’m just not sure why. Loman can be such a straight arrow that I can’t imagine that Woz really thought he was a perfect fit for his crew.

Should Harlee let Cristina “out of the bubble wrap” like she’s requesting?

Stacy: Harlee's life is very complicated, and it makes her a little overprotective. She's also a single mom with one kid, though, so it's not all that shocking. Add in the dangers of her job, and Harlee is just doing what she can to keep her only daughter safe.

But, Cristina is growing up and she will need some independence, otherwise, she'll just continue to rebel and get herself in more trouble.

Jasmine: Oh my God, yes! This particular trope always drives me mad. You can't protect someone by leaving them completely in the dark. Otherwise, they can't even attempt to fend for themselves.

I get her being protective, to a degree, but she needs to at least talk to her some. Like, as many times as Stahl has crept into Harlee's home, how does Cristina not know that he's at most a shady dude she should steer clear of, at least some dude that works with her mom.

Things like Cristina working with him without her mother's knowledge could be avoided if Harlee stopped treating her like she's ten and talked to her a bit.

Christine: I get Harlee’s point of view. An arrest record could ruin Cristina’s future and Harlee has sacrificed a lot for her. She’s also told Cristina that Miguel abused her; I’m not sure how much more graphic she wants to get with that.

But Cristina needs a dose of reality and fast before she does some permanent damage to both herself and her mom.

How Will Cristina React? - Shades of Blue Season 2 Episode 1

Did Tess get busted on her drug test? Did she give information to Verco?

Stacy: I was a little confused on that one. I figured the painkillers she was taking were prescribed for her shoulder, but based on the look on her face when the drug test came up, apparently not.

I'm guessing she found someone to provide her with a clean sample.

Jasmine: She looked concerned. I imagine, even if they were prescribed they're still not something she should be taking on duty. I assumed she would find someone to give her clean sample, but when Verco implied someone spoke to him, she came to mind.

Christine: Since the gunshot wound was unreported, I doubt Tess has a real prescription for those painkillers. I love Tess but I think she is their weakest link.

However, the scenes left us with enough ambiguity that it’s completely unclear what happened after that drug test.

The Rest of the Team - Shades of Blue Season 2 Episode 1

When Stahl told Harlee and Woz to dispose of Linklatter’s body, he said, “You know how to do that, right Harlee?” Does he suspect what she did to Miguel?

Stacy: I think it's pretty obvious he suspects that. He came at her with the questions about him early in the episode and then threw that line her way.

He wouldn't be going to so much trouble to investigate his disappearance if he didn't suspect Harlee killed him.

Jasmine: I think he suspects that. However, he has their entire unit pegged as dirty cops, so even without the Miguel suspicion, he'd probably think that she's done it before.

Christine: He sounded so sure when he said that. I thought he may have suspected that she paid Miguel off with the missing heist money, but now it sounds like he believes Harlee killed him.

Stahl Takes His Shot - Shades of Blue Season 2 Episode 3

What was your favorite quote or scene from this episode?

Stacy: I liked seeing Stahl so unhinged when he was faced with Linklatter. Woz thought he had a perfect plan to get them out of this mess, but they definitely were not expecting Stahl to up and shoot him.

Now we know why Stahl is so hell-bent on bringing down Julia, but I want more to that story.

Jasmine: Honestly, Woz had so many one-liners that had me snickering, I lost track of them all. Anytime Woz says something snarky, it's bound to be a favorite moment of mine.

Christine: I enjoyed Cristina getting busted for shoplifting with her cousin, mostly because it reminded me of my own cousins who shoplifted when we were teenagers so I could relate.

They always got away with it, and would encourage me to take part, but I never did, mostly because I knew I’d get busted and my father would kill me!
