Riverdale: Fred's Fate, Jughead's Loyalty & MORE!!

at .  Updated at .

Riverdale's freshman season was a surprisingly solid mix of teen angst and murder.

With the central plot wrapped up at the close of Season 1, fans have been questioning where the hit drama is going in Season 2.

Thankfully, the cast and crew took to San Diego Comic-Con to give us insight into the new season.

It started off with Season 1 bloopers before a Season 2 teaser wowed the crowd. Cheryl's mother is in the hospital, and there is a lot of blood on Archie's jacket.

Archie tells his friends that things are going to get worse, and Pop echoed that sentiment, claiming that the Angel of Death is in Riverdale.

Archie is not acting like he's lost his father in the teaser, but we got an answer on that at the panel.

"We're going to find out Fred's ultimate fate at the end of the premiere," executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told the crowd.

"The first episode is basically Archie, the gang, all the town sitting and waiting to find out what's going to happen with Fred."

Meanwhile, it was essentially confirmed by the cast that Jughead would mostly be exiled away from his friends when the show returns.

"I think Jughead for season two is placed in the middle of two worlds that are starting to collide and erupt," Cole Sprouse says.

"As the season progresses, it's going to start forcing him to pick a side, which is difficult for him."

This is down to his new ties to the Southside Serpents. It will put a huge strain on his relationship with Betty.

But that's not to say Betty is going to accept this new Jughead.

Lili Reinhart, herself, said, "Last season we saw Dark Betty. This season is more like tortured soul Betty."

Their relationship is said to become difficult because they are essentially from different worlds, and the residents of Riverdale are not entirely fond of the Southside Serpents.

Talk turned to Veronica's relationship with her father, and it sounds like Veronica is very close with the crook, despite everything he did to people in the town of Riverdale.

"Dark Veronica is much darker than Dark Betty," executive producer Sarah Schechter reveals.

Aside from that, Veronica is going to be dealing with the arrival of her ex-boyfriend. That will bring her dark side out as she grapples with having a tie to her old life in Riverdale.

The dude is not nice, and the girls will join forces in Season 2 Episode 5 to get rid of him.

However, Veronica and Archie are set to share the steamiest scene in the history of the series, so it seems ominous that the new dude is thrown into the mix shortly after.

He's blatantly there to jeopardize Archie and Veronica's relationship. Hey, that's what teen dramas do.

Boarding School Can Wait - Riverdale Season 1 Episode 7

After all of the crap Cheryl went through, she seemed poised to become nicer, but that's apparently not part of the plan right now.

The trailer at the panel showed her mother in a right state as Cheryl chanted to her that change was on its way to Riverdale.

While Kevin is dealing the fallout from his relationship with Joaquin, he will find himself drawn to someone else pretty quickly in the aftermath.

Also, Josie and Reggie are totally becoming a thing. Ashleigh Murray was terribly underused on Season 1, so at least we know she's getting a storyline.

“Josie might be batting a couple of eyelashes at Reggie,” Ashleigh Murray revealed. As for the Pussycats, “we are, literally, singing the dopest song ever” in Season 2’s second episode, Asha Bromfield hinted. “It’s a classic.”

We're also getting to see more of Josie's relationship with her mother, so that should be exciting.

The crew seemed happy about the 22 episode season because they could flesh the characters out better. Yes, a lot of characters just disappeared last season.

Finally, The Shannara Chronicles alum, Toni Topaz has been added as a Southside Serpent.

"She's sort of Jughead's guide into the Serpent world. There's a lot about her that makes it seem as if she's got a lot of the same interests as Jughead. She's almost like a female Jughead," Aguirre-Sacasa says.

Riverdale Quotes

Alice: These diaries are your past, and your past is crushing you. Edgar says that...
Betty: What, Mom? What does some guru who’s running a heaven’s gate commune for pregnant runaways and wives of serial killers have to say about my diaries?
Alice: We know that you look down on the Farm, Betty. But, Edgar has done nothing but help me. He’s encouraged me to embrace everything that I was ashamed of and become the best version of myself.

Veronica: What's happening out there? Do we know? Is it about me?
Jughead: I have a strong inkling, and no. Also, I'd let it go.
Veronica: Yes, but you're you and I'm me. You do you, girl. I'll be back.
[She leaves]
Kevin: What was it like before she got here? I honestly cannot remember.
