This Is Us Season 2: Sylvester Stallone Lands Role

at .

This Is Us had a groundbreaking freshman run on NBC last season, and the show is staffing up as we approach Season 2.

The latest addition to the cast is the esteemed actor, Sylvester Stallone, but who will he be playing?

Surprisingly, the 71-year-old has been signed up to play himself.

Sylvester Stallone

Series creator, Dan Fogelman announced the exciting news at NBC's Television Critics Association summer press tour event yesterday to a shocked audience.

He will form a close bond with Kevin (Justin Hartley) when they meet up on the set of his new war-movie in which they will both be co-starring with one another.

Sylvester is currently tapped to appear in one episode of the drama series, but there is every possibility that he could return down the line.

Stallone is a movie veteran and has had very few appearances on TV screens. His most iconic role was as Rocky Balboa in the Rocky movie franchise.

Interestingly, the casting came about when Milo Ventimiglia got the ball rolling. The two men previously worked together on the sixth Rocky movie, Rocky Balboa.

With This Is Us returning next month, fans have been questioning where the series could go next. This Is Us Season 1 concluded in mediocre fashion with an episode that gave loyal viewers very little in the way of answers.

The biggest question plaguing the series surrounds the fate of patriarch, Jack Pearson, who is dead in the present narrative of the story.

“If that is a question that’s haunting people, in the course of the second season they will get all the answers they need,” Fogelman told the Television Critics Association press tour Thursday.

Now What? - This Is Us Season 1 Episode 15

“The first episode has a big, giant piece of the puzzle that will essentially set the Internet abuzz."

So, it sounds like the producers have taken the negative reaction on board and will be pulling out all the stops to give fans what they want.

This Is Us averaged 9.8 million viewers and a 2.7 rating among adults 18-49 throughout its first season in live plus same day ratings.

It went on to snag 11 Emmy nominations and is expected to win a good number of them.

This Is Us Quotes

Rebecca: Do you have a dream? Sorry is that a stupid question?
Jack: No. It's just no ones really ever asked me that before. Right now I just want to make sure that my mom is okay. Get her settled at her friend's place, and then I don't know. A decent job, a wife, a family, a house that feels nothing like the house I grew up in. Is that a stupid answer?

Listen to me. Yes, when you made starring quarterback I was psyched cause I was excited to watch you take off. But Kevin, football is not the only thing that you have. You understand?
