What happened THAT night?

And no, we're not talking about the night Simon died, and Laurel had her baby.

On How to Get Away with Murder Season 4 Episode 9, a critical truth was revealed that brought us back to Wes.

Below, TV Fanatics, Jasmine Blu, Justin Carreiro and Whitney Evans discuss their thoughts on the invigorating midseason premiere.

What are your thoughts on Wes leaving the voicemail for Dominick?

Jasmine: Why? I'm so confused! What is going on?! It reminded me that there is still so much we don't know about the night Wes died.

Justin: The mystery never ends! I love a good jaw-dropping cliffhanger, and with Wes dead, it’s going to be hard for them to dig deeper into this case.

Whitney: I am insanely confused by excited that we will get to see more Wes, even if it's only in flashbacks. Like Jasmine mentioned, there is more to the night Wes died than we know.

Were you shocked Jorge Castillo was at the hospital with the tall tale about Laurel?

Jasmine: Not really. Jorge has a creepy way of being one step ahead of Laurel no matter what she does. Surprise isn't the word to describe it. It's more like disgust. That man is despicable.

Justin: Not at all. He is a well-connected man with eyes everywhere; he always gets what he wants. Who knows how long he had this all planned in case she went into labor.

Whitney: Nope. Mr. Castillo seems like one of the sleazier men this show has ever produced and this is a show that also had Sam Keating on it.

Do you want the team back together, or do you like them apart?

Jasmine: I actually like them apart. It shocked the hell out of me how enjoyable Connor is when he's working with Annalise. I love the relationship that they have developed, and for the first time in forever, he's really flourishing. I don't want him to backtrack. Also, Annalise has improved so much with the time away from the kids. I'm cool with Annalise, Frank, and Connor.

Justin: I’m somewhat mixed about this. I agree with Jasmine that I think the characters are flourishing on their own and growing as people. For too long they’ve been enabling each other and falling into bad habits. However, I love their dynamic, and they cause scandalous drama whenever the group is together, so I wouldn’t mind them back together.

Whitney: I think they were always destined to come back together at some point, so am I excited about that happening? Yes and no. They've all changed exponentially while apart, and I'm curious to see how they will be now and what the dynamic will be.

How did you feel about Oliver's reaction to the others wanting Simon killed off?

Jasmine: I mean it was a normal reaction. Oliver dipped his toe into Annalise's murder club, but he's still fairly green and isn't as jaded as the others yet. Someone has to be the voice of reason.

Justin: I liked it. Many of these characters have been involved in murders and cover-ups the last few seasons. Oliver is new to this world, and he’s not as corrupt as the others. His first instinct isn’t to survive, he still thinks with his conscious.

Whitney: It was totally in character with who Oliver is. He's just as much a part of what went wrong that evening, but unlike the others, he's not willing to just let an innocent person die so he can survive the ramifications.

Is Isaac officially in with the group now, or will Annalise drop him when she has got what she wants?

Jasmine: Hmm, tough one. For some reason, I thought he played a bigger role in that night than he did. The flash forwards leading up that night were misleading. Annalise may rely on him for as long as what he has to offer is valuable, then she'll drop him, so he isn't dragged in deeper.

Justin: He’s in the group...for now. Isaac doesn’t seem like a character who will be a longstanding member after this mystery is resolved. Once Annalise gets what she needs from him, he’ll be removed.

Whitney: I can't tell yet. I think they are bound together in a certain way but knowing this show, he won't last.

Grade the midseason premiere.

Jasmine: B. Most of it felt like a refresher. It was solid though. That Wes and Dominick reveal was something else! I'm loving that Frank weaseled his way back into being Annalise's ride or die, more like ride and kill.

Justin: B. To move the story forward, we had to tie up the aftermath of the shooting and the birth. It was good to see how the group reacted to the chaos, and what was set up for the future.

Whitney: B-. I thought there were so many moving parts that it was a bit much to keep up with. I am excited about where the rest of the season can go, and I'm glad we will get to see Wes, even though we know how that ends.
